It doesn’t matter what my plans are . . as soon as something more fun comes along, I change my plans. This morning I told Vince I was going to cross stitch all day and we were going to have leftovers for dinner. He was fine with that. I sat down to read email and look at Facebook before starting my stitching and what did I see? Someone had made and was talking about Kentucky Bar Fight Jam. Doesn’t that sound interesting? I told Vince that I was going to make this jam. I had blueberries and blackberries in the freezer. I had everything I needed but first, I had sourdough in the fridge that I had planned to bake yesterday so I got that in the oven.
Then I had to fix myself a Soda Stream drink.
The bourbon goes in the jam .. not in my Dr. Doctor!
I did a much better job of organizing before starting this time. I washed all the jars, lids and rings outside, then put the jars, rings and lids in the white tubs so I could pour hot water over them. I brought down gloves so my hands wouldn’t be burning from the peppers. I brought down the little chopper. Pretty much everything I needed. I measured out the sugar (green bowl).
By the time I got started good, the bread was ready to come out of then oven!
There’s such a tiny bit of counter space down there that having two things going at once is difficult. If we ever get some of the stuff out of that garage, I can set up a folding table when I’m canning.
At the end of the day, I ended up with 20 half pints of jam and a gorgeous loaf of bread. We had turkey sandwiches for dinner – fresh bread, turkey, Swiss cheese, and Kentucky Bar Fight Jam!

I like the shape of that pan for bread. Would you tell me brand name or even better info where it’s sold? Thank you.

That jam sounds interesting. Would probably be good on cream cheese (like the pepper jelly).

I agree! I would love it with goat cheese on crackers or crusty bread too. I do have goat cheese but I also have brie so we’ll probably have that tomorrow.

HaHa at first I thought the bourbon was to get you going! Was the jam as good as it sounds? Happy 4th!

Your new stove is really getting a work out. Looked at the jam recipe and it sounds good.

I’m loving being able to can downstairs. The upstairs kitchen has hardwood floors. I am such a messy cook, especially since the stove is across the room from the sink. I spend more time drying up water on the floor than I do cooking. In the basement garage, it’s just plain old concrete. I wear good tennis shoes and have an anti-fatigue mat ordered but when I spill or drip water, it just dries up and you never know it was there. I can use a broom and a dust pan or open the garage door and use the leaf blower to clean up the mess. 🙂
The a/c unit is in the closet off the garage so the vents in the garage blow really hard and the air is really cold. I can sit right under those vents and no matter how hot I am, within a minute, I’m freezing. Perfect! 🙂
