Yesterday I was in the kitchen, which is two rooms away from the front door. I heard a loud noise and went to the front door to see what had happened. I had boxes on the front porch and the Fed Ex delivery guy was just driving away. I had ordered 6 cases of quart jars. I noticed the bottom box in the right hand stack looked crushed so I opened the boxes outside. Sure enough, there were broken jars. Two cases of jars in that box and several jars in each case were broken.
Last night I was checking the videos on the cameras before deleting them and saw the one of the Fed Ex guy dropping the box! He walked up to the door and the box was fine . . nothing was crushed. He literally dropped the boxes onto the concrete, you can hear the glass breaking and he walks away.
Sorry for the poor quality. I cropped the video to remove his face and this is what I was left with. The original video is crystal clear. Turn the volume up and you can hear the glass breaking.
Trying to contact Fed Ex to share a video is impossible. They can offer a refund, which Walmart already did but I feel like someone at Fed Ex should know how this guy dropped these boxes, then walked away. But . . I suppose that’s just how it is these days. I’ll keep the video on my phone that shows his face and maybe a different Fed Ex driver will tell me someone local I can contact.
The bad news is that Walmart is out of quart jars. They’re hard to find everywhere and even though I got a refund, I’d rather have the jars.

It’s sad that so many people don’t seem to care about doing a good job any more. If I were Fed Ex, I would want to know when someone does that, but that is just me…
judy.blog@gmail.com says
I would too but I’ve tried several ways to contact them and unless it’s something automated – tracking, report lost package, refund, package pickup – forget it. They truly cannot care or they wouldn’t make it so difficult to share this info. I don’t want the driver to get in trouble but he’s a young guy and may not even think about glass or something fragile being in the boxes he’s delivering. A simple lesson would be in order if you ask me but . . no one asked me! 🙂
Amy Kollasch says
My experience with FedEx is spotty at best. Sometimes they are fine. Other times they throw it or drop it. I had a planter that was made out of recycled materials (very light weight). It was dropped on the corner top of the box and completely crushed the corner. I get nervous when I order something and it says it will be delivered by FedEx. My UPS driver will refuse to deliver something to me if it sounds broken.
Nelle Coursey says
I hope you can get in touch with them. Even if you have to go through their web site. This is not right. That employee needs to know it is not ok to do this! I am sure the boxes said “fragile” on them! I think sometimes that is a challenge for them!!
judy.blog@gmail.com says
Honestly, I’ve tried and it’s close to impossible and not worth my time.
Peggy K says
While their website is a little tough to navigate you can try this…
How do I file a complaint?
We’re sorry to hear you’ve had a bad experience. To file a complaint, please call customer support at 1.800.GoFedEx 1.800.463.3339.
judy.blog@gmail.com says
Tried that and anything other than their canned options, you have to hold. I held for 36 minutes once and 27 minutes once. Just not worth my time.
Donna Bradbury says
When I have to make those kind of calls, I’ll do some kind of sitting work or even be on the computer or reading with the phone on speaker. I’ve been known to change floors carrying the phone. Stubborn, it’s called!!!
judy.blog@gmail.com says
It just isn’t worth my time. I got the refund and honestly, I feel like talking to anyone at a major company (except maybe the brown shipping company) is a waste of time so why bother?
Peggy K says
Wow- sorry this has happened but shame on the delivery guy -even if it was an accident and somehow slipped one could clearly hear there was damaged and he could have brought it back on his truck as undeliverable or rang your bell to apologize. I see that Walmart has an exclusive shipping contract with fedex- so not another option.
judy.blog@gmail.com says
Walmart promptly refunded my money so if they’re willing to pay for that kind of service, so be it but I guess in the end, it’s all added to the cost of what we buy.
Nelle Coursey says
Sometimes I feel the same way! We meet for the second time at the new location tomorrow! It is really nice! They even have a 1920 or 30’s fire engine in there! Belongs to the city of Brownwood! They came to take a video last week while we were there! The conference room is the Jack and Bethany Conference Room! I am so happy for them!

Here in the UK, I had success a delivery companyby emailing the CEO. I didn’t get a reply from him, but there is obviously a team/individual who deals with such things.
I believe the CEO of FedEx in the US is Raj Subramaniam – try adding dot @fedex to send an email.
Good luck – these companies don’t expect us to go the extra mile to get in touch.
judy.blog@gmail.com says
No, I’m done with it. Not wasting any more time on it.
Donna in KS says
I definitely try to avoid FedEx delivery! I know someone at UPS that would want to know if their people were doing this. Although, yes, much is changing, every industry. I understand good help is hard to find!
MRH says
Unpopular opinion, but It is also quite likely that the driver isn’t paid enough to care. Because he knows that corporate can absorb the loss and is not incentivized to do any better.
judy.blog@gmail.com says
I think people should care and do their best whether it’s a volunteer job, a minimum wage job or CEO of the company. If you don’t do your job to the best of your ability, do you do anything to the best of your ability? I feel that saying “I don’t make enough to care” says a lot about the person . . and it’s not good. How much should someone make before they do the best they can do? I’ve also found that in most any job, no matter the pay, there’s going to be a time when you are asked to do something that’s below your level of expertise and if you can’t lower yourself to do that, and do the best you can do, again .. that says a lot (negatively) for the person. Just my opinion.
I also think that an employee who makes the company look bad, whether he’s making twice what he’s worth or half what he’s worth . . he’s not an asset and probably should go. Again . . just my opinion.
I was always taught to do the best I could, no matter what I was doing; and to treat everyone with respect whether it was the old guy delivering our newspaper or the doctor. I was no better than anyone else! I’m glad I was taught that as a kid.
Donna in KS says
Preach it, Judy! Heaven only knows how bad the lack of this kind of training of children and the acceptance of this lack by society will take this country. Our sons were raised to be responsible and always do the best they could. Each is a manager and lament the lack of a good work ethic in people today. Not what was expected of them.

I never order any more from Walmart because they use FedEx. I have terrible luck getting stuff that is coming FedEx. I only have a 50% delivery rate of anything that is shipped thru them. I decided that once I know a company uses them as the delivery service I will not order from them. I have contacted the companies after each non delivery and let them know I would not be shopping with them again for that reason. I have actually contacted companies before placing an order if it says they use FedEx to see if I could pay more to have it send by a different carrier. Most the time I am told they have a contract with FedEx and can’t us anyone else. Ok then I will try to find my item somewhere else. Better that than the run around with the company to try for a refund. Because FedEx says it is delivered…..maybe it was just not to my address.
judy.blog@gmail.com says
I can’t say we’ve had a lot of problems with Fed Ex – there can be issues with all of them but it does seem, from what everyone else is saying, that they have more issues.
Sherry in NC says
My father worked as a manager for several different places. He never asked anyone to do something that he wouldn’t do. Most of the time, he was working right along side the people doing the lowest job in the company. That’s what we were taught. When I worked at the grocery store, if the restrooms needed cleaned or carts needed brought in, it wasn’t above me to do those jobs. Young people these days are too entitled.
judy.blog@gmail.com says
Totally agree. Too many kids today are brought up to think they’re so special, they need to be waited on and pampered and the “dirty” jobs are for someone else – never for them.
Sheryl says
…this is just my opinion…but….I would post the un-edited video on Facebook and Instagram and say he’s a Fed-Ex driver in addition to describing the condition of your jars. When it gets to corporate, you will probably get a response. He may be young but he won’t learn to appreciate his job unless he’s held accountable. Going public isn’t always a bad thing. 🙂
KATIE M PETERSON says
Made me jump when I heard the crash. sad that he left it that way.
Sandra Richardson says
I jumped too, wasn’t expecting that loud crash. Sorry that happened to Judy!
judy.blog@gmail.com says
Isn’t that crazy? You know he knew he had broken something in there.
Teri says
Our Fed Ex knocked down our mailbox . I called and they never answered my call….the thing about Fed Ex they are all franchise’s so going to headquarters may not get you what you need….you need to find the franchise owner.
judy.blog@gmail.com says
I’m done dealing with it. It’s a waste of time. Walmart refunded my money. It’s terribly frustrating for me when a business is so big and non-caring that you cannot talk to anyone who cares or even pretends to care.
Cody says
Judy try Joann fabrics for your jars.
judy.blog@gmail.com says
Thank you for that info. I didn’t realize JoAnn has jars. I just looked online and they’re almost exactly double the cost of jars at other places. I’m not desperate yet. I actually have “enough” but if I continue canning meat out of the freezer, I will run out but, when/if I run out of jars, I’m done canning if I can’t buy reasonable priced jars.
Paula Nordt says
Odd maybe, but I have never had an issue with deliveries from FedEx. The United States Postal Service, however! One of the honeybee queens we ordered was shipped in a USPS special envelope marked live delivery DO NOT PLACE IN MAILBOX!!! Guess where we found the now dead queen on a hot Texas summer day! Queens aren’t cheap! Ever since my husband has driven the hour and a half to two hours to pick up a “local” queen.
judy.blog@gmail.com says
And driving that distance isn’t cheap either. The USPS in Brownwood was always so good! A few times I got worms or different live things and they always called me when the package arrived and asked if I wanted to come down and get it and I always did. I suppose, at least when there were decent employees who wanted to work, a lot of it had to do with management and what they tolerated but now . . who knows.
