Yesterday while at Walmart, as I mentioned yesterday Vince had gone out to the garden center and I had walked over to the canning area. There was a man coming down the canning row and I was kinda in the middle of the row with my cart so I apologized. I was looking at lids and then I grabbed a 12 pack of quart jars because I had some canning to do yesterday afternoon. I knew I had one package of quarts but thought I might need more. (I didn’t because I ended up using pints). I don’t know how we struck up a conversation but he said he was looking for half gallon jars. I had just stopped and looked at them on an end cap so I told him where they were. He said “I deliver milk in the half gallon jars!” About that time Vince walked up and I was asking the man about milk. He said he has a dairy and I was confused because I knew he wasn’t the guy from the dairy where we usually buy milk.
Come to find out, he delivers milk once a week to our area. I was excited because it’s a bit far to the dairy we’ve been using – not FAR as in next county but probably 20 or more miles one way from our house. We usually get two gallons when we go and then we run out and have to use storebought milk til we get back over there. So, if this guy brings us milk once a week, that will work great.
I’m going try to make goodies . . muffins or bars . . things like that to give to him. He said he and his son deliver the milk and they will be by about 6 a.m. on delivery day. I’ll make the treats the night before. 🙂
I hope he does it. I’ve already texted him and asked him to leave us a gallon on the next delivery day. How cool is that to have a milk man again!

That really is a lucky meeting! I don’t think they deliver here, but we do have 2 local dairies that make wonderful cheese and sell directly to the grocery stores in town. And one of them just opened a little store on the highway, and carry other local products besides their cheese. I’m excited about that.

….I wish we had milk delivery here, but we don’t….
I went to Walmart the other day and went to buy russet potatoes they were $4.68 a pound…needless to say I didn’t buy them….this is crazy….

Crazy. You probably don’t want to know that they’re 54 cents/pound or if you want organic, it’s $1.89/pound,

I was so excited. I’ve texted him with my address, which is what he asked me to do but I haven’t heard back so I’m hoping it actually happens.

It’s probably been almost 50 years since we had milk delivered – it was SO good. Hope you’re able to get it!!

I am so jealous. I think we should move to your area and you should hold classes on canning meat. My mother-in-law used to can pork loin and it was the best. I was too young to even be interested in that. They were farmers and we always had fresh milk. When we moved to the city we were able to get milk from some locals. Now we buy Costco milk. ?
