I’m always scrounging the large, thick pieces of styrofoam that arrive in packages. Every now and then there will be a good piece that will work for mounting a cross stitch piece.
Vince unpacked the Blackstone griddle today and put it together. When I went outside, he said “I’ve never seen anything packed like this thing was packed!” He pointed to the stack of styrofoam on my car.
I think I was more excited about the styrofoam than I was the grill.
I did get the grill seasoned and used it to cook breakfast.
Loved not having to worry about a mess in the house, love how hot it got and that the grease just drained out the back and I didn’t have to pour off the grease from the bacon and the bacon was sitting and cooking in grease. I didn’t take any pictures while cooking but I fixed hash browns, bacon, eggs and even toasted the bread on it. For the hash browns, I have to do them in two or three batches in a skillet inside but on the grill, I was able to spread them out, cook them on the hottest setting (left side) to get them nice and crispy. The right side was on medium while I cooked the bacon, then I turned down the hash brown side and moved the bacon over there, buttered the bread put it down on that side to toast, turned down the right side to the lowest setting and cooked the eggs.
Vince was pretty impressed with it and I think he was happy we got it. He said “They make a four burner!” I told him for just the two of us, I think the two burner is fine. He said “It’s a good start!”

.. OK – were you able to collect the bacon grease in a tin? I know Mom would save bacon grease to use instead of butter. Even fish tasted better with a little bit of bacon grease.
Nice griddle – does it come with a cover or will you wheel under the deck to avoid rusting it out.

There is a foil container that catches the grease and yes, I save bacon grease. I only cooked 4 slices of bacon so it wasn’t enough grease to mess with saving though.
It came with a black cloth type cover but we also bought an aluminum cover that fits over the grill, then put the cloth type cover over the whole thing but we do put it in the downstairs garage when we’re not using it.

What did you do to season? I have three small one and seasoned according to the manufacturers directions and things still stick.

Really? I seasoned it liked cast iron. I use grapeseed oil. I heated the grill til it was changing colors, wiped it down good with the oil, let it smoke til it stopped smoking, then repeated four more times. Took probably an hour, 15 minutes it it’s a nice, slick finish. Nothing stuck this morning when I used it.

I’ve thought about this grille but wondered how to clean it. Your thoughts?

It’s super easy to clean. Once it’s seasoned, nothing sticks. I spent about an hour and a half this morning seasoning it, then cooked bacon, hash browns and fried eggs. Nothing stuck at all. Scrape the residue with a metal spatula through the drain opening in the back. I wiped it down with some lint free paper wipes, then heated it all up again, rubbed it down with grapeseed oil, let that cook til it stopped smoking. Done . . til I’m ready to use it again. Then I’ll just heat it up and start cooking.
It’s kinda like having a bathroom floor with a drain hole and you can wash it all with a high pressure hose and it all goes down the grain hole! This is something I always wished I had! 🙂
Seriously, that’s why I love cooking with cast iron. Once it’s seasoned, nothing ever sticks.
