We took Oscar to town with us today and stopped by our favorite yogurt shop. They asked if Oscar wanted a pup cup and I had to laugh because I’m sitting in the car (drive thru) asking what kind of sweeter they use, are they sure there’s no xylitol. Yes, they were sure it was safe for dogs. I got a cup for him but I still only let him have two licks. I think the texture and taste was so foreign to him that he didn’t really know if he liked it or not so he wasn’t trying to fight me for it when I put it away.
When Chad was growing up, he told me it was easier for him not to have friends because if he wanted to spend the night somewhere, I had a full list of questions for the parents. Do you have smoke alarms with good batteries? Where are your guns? There were more but those were the make or break questions.
Anyway, while we were driving along, Oscar yawned and what did I see? A mouth full of permanent teeth! When did that happen? With my first dachshund, I saved almost all his baby teeth (and I still have them). With Speck, I found some of them but with Oscar, I didn’t get a single one. There are still a few – very few – baby teeth, but I’m so sad I didn’t get any of them.
He’ll be six months old in a few days and I read that most have all their permanent teeth by the time they’re 8 months old. My baby is growing up!
The good news is that almost overnight, we seem to have taken a giant leap forward with the potty training. Not sure which one of us got trained – he still doesn’t tell me when he has to go out but he will almost always go over and get a drink of water when he needs to go out. Speck did that too. When I hear him drinking, I take him out. We make probably 15 trips a day outside. Whatever it takes . . at least there’s no snow or ice out there now.

He is growing up! Seems so fast to me!

It seems that way to me too. Even though I’d love to have a puppy longer, I’m ready for a bit of maturity (i.e., not running 90 mph every step he takes, not trying to chew the sheetrock off the walls and dig up the carpet).

I don’t know how many shoes I have lost over the years! Especially the ones I really liked!

Mine at two now stands and barks and it is a different sound so I know she needs to go out. However she goes out about every 4 hours so that is also easy to do. The older one has never barked but will hold it forever so he is easier. He goes out now when she does.
He will not sleep in the kennel and she does much better sleeping in the kennel than loose in the house or in bed with him and me.
