The end of this story is funny . . the front part . . not so funny.
Last night Addie did not stop talking til after 2 a.m. I finally told her I was going to bed . . she could stay up as long as she wanted and talk to herself.
I got in bed about 2:30 and at 3:30, Vince woke me telling me he was having chest pains. He said “Do you want me to call an ambulance?” I told him . . You do whatever you feel like doing but I felt like, because of how far we live from the hospital and ambulance dispatch area, and with there being little to no traffic at that time of night, I could get him there faster but .. if he needed help on the way, the ambulance was better for that. He decided he wanted me to drive him so I got Addie up and we were at the hospital a little after 4.
They did an EKG and bloodwork and had pretty much decided he was not having nor had he had a heart attack but they wanted to wait two hours and do more bloodwork.
When the doctor came in to talk to Vince, he was looking at his legs and his arms and Vince mentioned that the scrapes were all from having a puppy.
Dr: What kind of puppy?
Me: Mini Dachshund.
Dr: I have a mini dachshund puppy! He’s 4-1/2 months old. How old is yours?
Me: 5-1/2 months!
The doctor and I both grabbed our phones and were sharing pictures of our puppies. Vince was there, in bed, about to say “What about me?” After about six photo shares each, Vince said “I could be having a heart attack and you two are sharing puppy pictures.” The doctor grinned and said “You’re not!”
It brought a little humor to what had been a stressful couple of hours!

I hope Vince is feeling better and that y’all got some sleep after that…
BTW, my mom had heart issues for a while and after my dad passed away, she started having more pain and she would call me as she waited for someone to take her to theER. Since the last flight from OKC to Detroit was around 5ish, I would go directly from work to the airport. I had the basic stuff up north and my attitude was that there were stores and a washing machine, so why worry. And I started putting a “go bag” in the car.
The first time I was worried – flew to Detroit, rented a car, and went to the hospital to check on mom as well as getting the house key. The second time, less worried since she had all the tests. The third time, I told the neighbor to quietly mention to the ER staff that mom was not good about taking her acid reflux medicine. The ER docs gave her some chalky medicine and her pain went away – she was having reflux issues which sometimes feel like you are having heart issues. She was discharged when I got there. She didn’t have another issue for a long time.
So… does Vince have acid reflux? Does he drink soda (the carbonation is the culprit). Does he eat something and then go to bed? That doesn’t help reflux. And then there are the various foods which start the problems. I had “silent gerd” where the first symptom was losing my voice. So, I know what to do and I really know when I goofed up.
Have a great weekend and enjoy!

He has Barrett’s so he’s very careful what he eats and generally doesn’t eat anything after about 4. That’s why we have our main meal by 3 p.m. He drinks no soda. His blood pressure was high yesterday and he talked to his doctor on the phone. Then it was higher during the night and he felt like he was having chest pains but I think that may have been more anxiety because of the blood pressure being so high.

I am so glad there is no heart attack! That is really scary! But he needs to keep an eye on that, it might just be a precursor to one.

He has a cardiologist here and between him and the GP, they’re watching everything but it’s still scary!

So glad to hear it was not a heart attack! Hearing too many medical stories recently – hips and knees and hearts. Hope they figure out soon what it was since they know what it wasnt! (I am just catching up on reading). Love that you were sharing photos with the MD – sounds like he has a great bedside manner!
