Vince and I went to the farmers’ market yesterday afternoon – mainly to discuss the Three Sisters Garden in the children’s area. That didn’t happen. It may not happen. I was looking forward to it but . . well, it just may not happen. That’s ok. I already have a plan for getting my hours. If that goes as planned, I won’t need any more hours. Vince has a couple of ideas of things he can do. We’re not worried about that.
The first vendor I visited was the lady who had the giant kale because I needed more to make more stuffed rolls to use up the meat i have left. She had them so I got those. She also had some pretty beets so I got a bundle of those. Second, there’s a berry farm that is very popular. They’re not terribly far from our house and we went there and picked blackberries and blueberries last year. When they have strawberries at the market, their lines are long. They had strawberries so I told Vince I’d wait in line while he went to find the lady he needed to talk to. I got our strawberries and also got some lettuce and tomatoes from them. Now all I need is bacon and we’ll have BLTs!
Another vendor had pretty sugar snap peas so I got those. Maybe I’ll make stir fry this week. There were a lot of peas in that bag. There’s probably enough for at least three meals.
Vince passed by the guy with the pretty butterfly bushes. Vince came and found me and said “Let’s get two butterfly bushes.” OK . . I wanted them Saturday but thought they were kinda expensive. Now that Vince wanted them, I didn’t have to justify wanting to buy them.
They’re called “Royal Red” but yesterday they looked more burgundy whereas Saturday, I thought they looked more red. The vendor said he’s only had one color this season so I guess that’s what I saw. We bought two of those and he had cucumber plants that already have cucumbers on them so I bought one of those. I’ll probably be sorry. Since I don’t make pickles, and I now have five cucumber plants . . if all goes well, that will be a lot of cucumbers just for eating.
I think that’s all we got. I used some of the strawberries, a couple of beets, carrots, apples and half a cucumber to make juice last night. Vince says he sleeps better when he drinks a glass of juice in the evening. I always sleep good so I can’t say if it helps me or not.
We had to run to the Mennonite store this morning to pick up some things the lady had ordered for me. Back home now and read to bake some bread!
