We went to Woody’s Wood Fire Pizza for the first time on Saturday and it was so good. It was some of the best pizza I’ve ever had but honestly, I’ve probably not had amazing pizza very often. As we were leaving, the lady told us they a buffet during the week and I wanted to go yesterday but Vince wanted to wait til today because it’s $4 at the pallet store and it’s near the pizza place. I said . . ok . . if we can go eat pizza for lunch, I’ll go with you to the pallet store.
I found some great bargains and, as much as I detest digging through a lot of cluttered piles, I think what I found today makes it worth while.
Each item, unless it was all packaged together, was $4.
What I consider to be my greatest find was Nature’s Path Organic Old Fashioned Oats.
I got all six of those containers for a total of $4. That’s such a bargain. This size container is $4 to $5 each. The expiration date is in April, 2023 but I vacuum sealed all of it except one jar that I kept out to use. All that’s vacuum sealed went into the freezer.
I use rolled oats for cookies, oatmeal cake and sometimes in meatloaf. We can always eat it for breakfast too.
These are ice cube trays but I love them for pesto and herbs. This summer when I have plenty of oregano, basil, parsley, cilantro – whatever I have growing, I can chop it and mix it with just a bit of water, pour it into trays and freeze it, then just drop it into whatever I’m making. Four trays and four lids were $4 and that same package is $12 at Amazon.
I’ll give this to Nicole. I didn’t see the same exact set anywhere online but the sets with one 4 oz. bottle of day and night is about $10 at Walmart. This one has two of the day version.
I love thin metal mini spatulas for using with cast iron and especially for cookies. This one is Pampered Chef and on their website for $10. Got it for $4.
This one was funny because I always like having smaller tubes of toothpaste for when we travel. Also, these would be good to put in little bags with a toothbrush, dental floss, a small thing of hand sanitizer and give to people who might need it. This is $19 at Amazon. Got it for $4.
This is something I can make for Vince and Addie. These are about $1.25 each at Walmart so that would be $7.50 for the six. Not a huge bargain compared to other things but still almost half price.
This was the first thing I found when we walked in. A small (8.5 oz.) can of lima beans. I LOVE lima beans. Vince will eat them but they aren’t his favorite. They’re $1.18 per can at Walmart, or about $14 for 12 cans. I paid .33 per can or, $4 for the 12 of them. I will cook these down with a little butter and cream, fresh black pepper . . yum!
This one is a “Best Seller” and $10 at Amazon. Of course . . it was $4 at the pallet store. I love this recipe, though I leave out the cumin seeds and go light on the ground cumin since Vince doesn’t like it. Black mustard seeds are something I don’t keep all the time so this will be a treat.
I was happy to find regular mouth canning lids and bands. The box had been opened so I took them all out and counted them. There were 12 bands and 13 lids so I’m assuming there had been more than one box of these, another one got opened and somehow an extra lid was placed in this box. These are $9 to $10 at Walmart so $4 was a nice buy for this.
This was a nice, plain daily planner I can use for next year. Those things can be so expensive. I like this one because it has plenty of room for writing.
I will use this one for cooking/canning/preserving because of the way it’s set up. I like that it doesn’t have dates . . I add those myself.
That was quite a haul for me. I think Vince said we bought 38 items. I bought 11 so that means he bought 27. He found the 365 coffee, Italian Roast, and he likes that so he bought probably 5 or 6 bags. We’re going to vacuum seal it and freeze it since they had a lot of coffee last week and he stocked up because he had never seen much coffee in there before. I found a can of Cafe’ du Monde’ chickory coffee and he wanted that. It’s about $7 or $8 at Amazon so $4 was a good deal.
When we left, the guy working there said “See you next week!” I said “Not me . . maybe him!” It is kinda fun when I’m finding good deals on stuff I know we’ll use but I’m pretty happy to dig through the three or four food bins and be done where Vince wants to go through every bin and there are probably over 100 bins. It also eats up a chunk of the day. I asked Vince before we got there “How long are we going to stay”” He said “one hour!” After about an hour and 20 minutes, I said “Can we be done now?” and he looked a little more and we left. I don’t mind him going and staying 2 or 3 hours (or more) but that’s just not something I want to do.
Happy with what I got but I’ll be happy to stay home the next couple of times Vince wants to go.

Great bargains; wish there was a pallet store where I live! Did you go to the buffet; if so, how was it?

We did go to the buffet and it was really great!

Great deals – I really need to get a vacuum sealer for bags. I have one that works on jars and special containers. Have you seen one at the pallet store that I can “order through you”? Just kidding, sorta….
I looked for a pallet store, but I need to find other terms to query on. I found great deals on the actual wood pallets, but not like the store you describe. I need to go through “liquidation” options. Does your store have a website that may mention other locations for them.
But, I did find a location for the grocery drop option (Azure). But, I need to get the sealer to make it efficient for buying some of the bulk stuff. Can you give us an update on what you really like from Azure?

I have not seen one but if I do, I’ll call you and see if you still need it. I need a new backup immersion blender and I’ve been looking for one of those.
Yes, I’ll do a post on what I’ve received from Azure and what I like.

I had the same experience as Liz! Several places to get pallets around here. 😀

There is a store in Springfield and it’s called a bin store. In fact it’s “Bin Crazy”. LOL

Great finds!! I wish we could get one here!!

You probably will. They seem to be popping up everywhere. Chad’s little town is about 1/4 the size of your town and they got one a couple of years ago.

You found some great bargains. Hubby picked up our Azure order yesterday for me since I’m out of town. This is the fourth month Ive ordered and the number of families ordering has steadily gone up. They do have good bargains.

Great! Glad you’re liking it. The first month I ordered, the coordinator said that was more people than she had ever seen there. One lady said it was twice as many. Last month, which was our second time, there were even more people. I think their quality is great but a lot of their prices aren’t as good as Sam’s, Walmart and Aldi (pasta comes to mind) but, it is all organic so I’m probably not comparing apples to apples. They do have great prices on grains. I also bought four artichoke plants from the garden and they were really nice and less than Walmart or Lowe’s.

I sent an email to one of the ladies that is associated with the Economic Development and told her we needed one. Years and years ago we had a place called Thompson’s Surplus. He got all these things from Sears, kind of like an outlet store. When they got shipments on Thursdays, you could not even move in that store!! They just piled things on a table, and you had to go through everything to find anything!! But it was fun to dig and it was pennies on the dollar! The Thompsons made a lot of money from that store!!
judy.blog@gmail.com says
That sounds very similar. The ones around here . . it’s just a local person who finds a place to rent, sets up a bunch of “bins” (most look homemade) and they start having pallets of overstock, returns, closeouts, etc. shipped in. It doesn’t seem to be a huge investment.

Shopping in a pallet store would send me over the edge. I don’t even do sale racks in stores if the merchandise is all jumbled together. With that said, I do like a bargain–in my Walmart pickup order for Monday I ordered two ten pound bags of Wheat Montana unbleached white flour for $9/bag. We were picking up the order on our way out of Billings. We were in Costco before going to Walmart and they had Wheat Montana flour, 10# bags for $6.50 each!!! I now have lots of flour! We also stocked up on meat (bought a freezer at Costco) so hopefully we don’t have to make as many expensive trips for groceries.

I’m with you on digging through jumbled messes (though I should be used to it since my cross stitching supplies are a bit of a jumbled mess) but the food bins stay kinda neat. I think most people go there to look for items they can sell at thrift stores, ebay, etc. and food items doesn’t seem to interest them.
Great deal on that Wheat Montana flour. Our WM isn’t even carrying it any more and that makes me sad.
It’s so nice having food, especially meat in the freezer. What you spend today will probably be a lot less than you’ll have to spend next week and somehow, to me, it doesn’t seem the same when I’m getting meat out of the freezer that I purchased months ago vs. going in and spending $50 on a roast.
