After having received over 10″ of rain at our house in about 48 hours, and more rain in other parts of town, there are numerous streets closed due to high water. Vince and I had three places we had to go in town today. MoDOT maintains a list of closed roads but it’s apparently only state roads. We knew the normal route we take was blocked so we took another route and got lost, turned down two roads that should have taken us to the interstate and they were both blocked. By then, we were late for the first appointment. We ended up making a huge circle and eventually getting to the interstate. Then, from the first appointment to the second appointment was fairly easy. We got back on the interstate and went straight to that location. The third appointment was also easy. We knew about one closed road and we knew an alternate route.
Getting back home . . not so easy. The back road from the high school to Oronogo didn’t show on the map to be closed . . but it was. Vince turned around and thought he could get around the airport and back to the highway and come in from the other side to our road. Nope, the road around the back side of the airport was underwater and blocked. The next two roads at least had “Closed due to high water” signs before we went down the roads only to find a lake and have to back track.
We finally made it to 43 and were able to get home.
It was weird that we had to go out today but it was things that needed to be taken care of today and had been scheduled for a while. Glad to be back home. We do have to go out again tomorrow but at least we know a way to get to where we need to be.

I’m glad you were able to turn around and still get to your appts. There have been stories about people driving down a road, only to be blocked and they turn around. But, the water filled in behind them so they were trapped and had to be rescued.
OKC got about 4-5 inches, but there are some spots in eastern OK that got 11-12 inches.

Yes, that thought crossed my mind but had we come to a bridge or low water crossing that looked like it was almost flooded, we wouldn’t have gone any farther since we didn’t know what was ahead. We had about 10.2″ in our gauge but other areas got more. I haven’t heard totals today.

Wow that is a lot of rain in a short period of time! How did your garden hold up?

Garden is fine. There was no hail and there was never any massive amount of rain at one time – it was just steady for two days.

That’s good 🙂

I wish we could get just a little of that rain! At 3 pm today the temp was 106 and at 7 it was still 104! The grass and trees are just like kindling! One little spark and it will create another wildfire!!

Terrible. It’s hard to believe how bad it can get til you experience it.
