You may remember last year when the county put up “Impassable During High Water” signs right at the end of our little street. It concerned me and Vince assured me that water would likely never come into our house. I walked around with my phone measuring the elevation and we are a good bit higher than the lowest area but we aren’t nearly as high as the highest area.
Today the usual low water areas are closed after the rain. Yesterday we had 5.2″ at our house and so far today, we’ve had 1.9″ with more coming. That’s over 7″ of rain in not much more than 24 hours.
I had gone out with Oscar and looked across the street and there’s a LOT of water standing in one yard and it isn’t far from being up to the road.
I wouldn’t be happy if my yard flooded like that but the good news is that it hopefully doesn’t happen very often. It looks like the water is still a long ways from getting into their house but if we get much more rain, their driveway is going to be under water and the road may get water across it. Crazy!
This is a tree that was planted in front of our dining room window. Jeremy and Angie had planted the same type tree when they built the house and it got way too big so they had it removed and planted another one. OK . . why? If the first one got too big that close to the house, isn’t the second one going to do the same thing? While it was still small Vince dug it up and replanted it in the back yard. It’s almost doubled in size since gave it some space.
There are three of these trees together. They may be Norway Spruce trees. I could look it up on the landscape drawings but . . I’m downstairs and lazy. 🙂
I love seeing the new growth. It’s funny because after having lived in central Texas for almost 10 years, seeing new growth in the spring is exciting.
You can see how huge they are. They’re planted on the side of the house where there’s a basement so they’re planted (height wise) between the basement and first floor level but they’re way taller than the roof. My guess is they’re at least 40 feet tall.
The kousa dogwood is blooming. We’ve been fertilizing and watering it when needed and hopefully it will produce enough fruit that I can make jelly.
We had six little plums on one of the plum trees but I think they’ve all fallen off the tree. That’s pretty standard for first year trees. We have three peach trees and I’ve seen one peach – it may fall off too.
Spring is a fun time with all the new growth and flowers.
