Finally! I’ve wanted to be a Master Gardener for so long. Vince did it in Georgia but didn’t keep up the continuing education credits or the volunteer work hours so he agreed to do it with me.
We still have to do volunteer work hours and continuing education credits every year as long as we want to maintain our “license”.
This really isn’t a huge accomplishment but it was big for me because I had wanted it for so long. It won’t make my gardening any better, but I’m happy!

Congratulations to you both!

Congratulations! That is just excellent for you both!

Congratulations! I think there should be photos of you and Vince in caps and gowns holding showels and spades or something.

or better yet a shovel (since my fingers were just making up words with showels)

Well, thank goodness that was not required! 🙂

Congratulations, I’m so excited for you both! This is something I’ve always wanted to do, but could never find the time. Now that I’m retired I don’t know that I would have the stamina to do the volunteer hours. I think I’ll look into it though!

Here you can do things like plant seeds in cups for the annual plant sale, work getting set up for the plant sale, work at the plant sale, man a booth and answer questions at fairs and things like that. It’s not all physical labor. Our group maintains the gardens at the library so that is work but we can go down and work an hour here and an hour there.

That I could do! I’ll have to look into what NJ requires…

Hey Congratulations! I just got mine last night and I also have wanted to do it nearly all my life! I didn’t know you were working on yours. My program started the first week of January and went through last night. Weekly class, homework and tests. I am so glad to be done, but like yours, we do volunteer hours and CEUs annually.

I think we finished ours in January. They put off our “graduation” ceremony twice – once because of Covid and once because of weather and they had the ceremony/dinner while I was in Louisiana so Vince didn’t go either. We went by the count extension office today and picked up the certificates and badges.
Tee says
Ha! We were shown how to print our certificates after we took the last class, which was last night. No pomp and circumstance here!
judy.blog@gmail.com says
Our first certificates, we had to print them ourselves but the grand finale, they had printed.

We have a program here called “Keep Brownwood Beautiful”. It is an official city managed program, but they have clean up days where they clean streets and right of ways in the city. Or the parks get cleaned up. It is amazing how much trash is on the streets. They have also cleaned a yard for a man who can’t do it himself and the city was going to fine him. He was so appreciative. The work is done by volunteers except for the director who is a city employee. I don’t know if you remember Pilar Roy or not, but she is the one who is the director now. If you could find something like that to help with maybe it would be your “volunteer work”. Or if they have community gardens, that would be great!

They have it all listed. It’s not hard to find opportunities – just hard to find things that don’t make me sweat! 🙂

Congratulations!! I’ve wanted to do this for a long time and should have done it last year when everything was done online, except for the volunteer hours. I’ll have to wait until next year and will see what the schedule is before committing.

For the group who graduated before we did, they waived the volunteer hours because of Covid. I was kinda hoping they would for us but sooner or later, we’d have to get back on track so I’m glad we did it.
