Recently I mentioned about the gerbera daisies I had in pots last year. I originally bought several smaller containers of them and put them in two clay pots and put them on my front porch but the afternoon sun was scorching them so I moved them over to the side of the driveway where they got a bit of shade. They did great and then we would bring them into the garage any time the temps were going to be too cold, then put them back outside on warmer days to get sunshine and get watered. I wasn’t sure they were going to survive as they began looking a bit ragged towards the end of winter. About the time they looked their worst, I saw blooms beginning to pop up. They survived winter! I’m going to bring those downstairs and put them somewhere under the pergola.
I love their happy colors so I bought four smaller pots and these, potted them in nice red pots and will also go somewhere on the pergola too. We’ve ordered some patio furniture but we still have to find some tables.
The ginger lilies have all been potted.
There are 8 pots of them. I’ll be thrilled if at least four of them bloom this year.
Speaking of things growing, there’s a baby tomato!
And check out the potatoes!
Yes, the weeds are growing up between the bags. I had been moving the bags – Vince would cut a strip, then I’d move the bags to the cut strip, then he’d cut where the bags were and I’d move them back but now the bags are too heavy for me to move so . . Vince is going to have to cut the strip, then get off the mower and move the bags, then cut, then move the bags back. No use in killing any more grass than we have to kill.
I love my little garden!

And we’re under a freeze warning for the 2nd day in a row! We’ve done nothing more than started a few seeds. 🙂

It’s so hard seeing others growing when it’s still too cold where you are!

I have Gerber daisies for about 5 years and every year they come back. This year on Christmas we had 3 feet of snow on top of them. New shoots are started to pop out…..

Really? They say they aren’t cold hardy. Maybe I’ll plant one of them in the ground, mulch it heavily and see what happens. I would imagine on those years we get down into the -20’s, I’d lose them all but it’s worth a try since most of the time, we don’t stay below zero very long.

Those Gerbera daisies are so NEAT! That’s great that they overwintered really well. They’ll be so neat under the pergola!

Maybe he needs a little dolly to move all the plants so he can mow, and then put them back where they go.

This coming winter we’re going to put them in the downstairs garage. I told Vince that for most of the smaller plants, we can put them on a tarp, which will protect the garage from them leaking and I can drag the tarp in and out. I only have to move them out about 6″ and they’ll get sunshine and I can water them, then drag the tarp back inside when it gets cold.
We’ve been keeping them in the upstairs garage and because that’s where Vince works so we have to carry them farther out so they’re not in the way.
