After all the complaining I’ve done about the G.E. Cafe Dishwasher, it’s time to share a little good news. The repairman who was here last week snapped that little whirling thing snugly onto it’s little “stem” and that dishwasher is as quiet as a church mouse. I can be standing right by it and don’t hear a sound. I’ve only used it three times since he fixed it but all three times, after a few minutes, I said to myself “Dang it . . I forgot to start the dishwasher!” Then I went to start it and saw that it was already running.
I took the advice given here and open the door as soon as I notice the cycle has finished. The inside of the door is steaming when I open it but I’ve just walked away and left it alone til I’m ready to unpack it and except for just a little water on the tops of some of the glasses, there’s no real water on the dishes. The silverware is damp and I ended up leaving the dishwasher open for a while, since we’re still hanging out downstairs (or outside) and then the silverware had dried.
Even though I had really wanted a gas stove and the Cafe model was the one I liked best, and since all the appliances were 18 years old, we went ahead and bought the dishwasher, fridge and wall oven so everything would match and with the dishwasher issues, I was kinda regretting that we had bought the models we bought but now, I’m happy with it all again . . except I still don’t have the wall oven so I can’t comment on that one yet but I’m confident it will be fine. The stove and the fridge are great and now, the dishwasher is great too.
Thank you all for listening to my complaining and for giving advice on leaving the door open.

I had to leave the door open on my Bosch also. I would open it and let it sit over night and empty in the morning. Tech advances?????

I suppose you could call it that. 🙂 Sometimes we just have to laugh.

..After your earlier posts, I went to a site (Bob Vila?) recommended by someone and learned something. Newer dishwashers use “condensation” drying, in which the water is supposed to evaporate off the warmer dishes and glasses and condense on the cooler stainless steel sides of the washer. So it makes sense that opening the door would work…let that steam out!
In addition to saving energy, it’s quieter because there’s no fan running. And without a heater coil, you don’t set a drying cycle. At least that’s my interpretation of the article!

Yes, that was the article I read. If I leave the door closed, the water does seem to accumulate on the door but it also leaves plenty on the dishes. I can’t remember if the old Kenmore had a fan. I don’t think it did but it was 18 years old and didn’t dry the dishes. Seems as though for most of us, the dishes may dry or may not dry and if they don’t dry . . that’s what dish towels are for. 🙂
