We ordered the holder for the puppy pad and that was supposed to keep Oscar from shredding the pads. Nope .. he figured right off the bat that he could scratch and scratch and get a little hole, then pull the whole thing up with his teeth.
All is not lost though. He loves to chase his tail and he uses the puppy pad holder kinda like a stage. When he sits, the raised edges of it help keep his tail in place and he’s able to catch his tail. It’s a long distance from a dachshund’s mouth to his tail so . . great invention but just not working so well for how it was intended.
Yesterday I asked Addie if she was expecting him to really be as wild and crazy as he is and she said “No! He was so sweet the last time I saw him!”
He loves her hair. If he sees her sitting, he runs and jumps on her back and grabs a mouth full of hair. We’re working on stopping that but by the time he sees her again, he will have forgotten whatever we teach him this weekend.
Last night Vince and I were laughing til we both had tears. Oscar only gets to come onto the carpet if he’s just gone outside and gone to the bathroom and then, only for about 10 minutes. We’ll be playing with him on the carpet but something we do and he knows it’s time he’s going to get locked back onto the tiled area and he starts running. He’ll run right up to us and make a really big hop . . up off all fours at the same time, and start running again. We go right along with him and encourage him because the more he runs, the less trouble he’ll be for 15 minutes or so.

Last year, when we got our little cavalier puppy, I bought a silicone puppy pad holder. Then we had all sorts of trouble buying puppy pads because Australia went into lockdown for so long everyone must have bought puppies to keep themselves company while they were at home. I ended up buying a couple of packets of the old style white square towelling baby nappies and used those instead of the puppy pads. I could just throw them in the washing machine and rinse off the silicone pad holder and then I didn’t have to worry about finding pads and spending more money so it worked out really well.
Kind regards

We did buy the holder but he’s still tearing up the pads. I had bought some washable pads. I’ll try putting those in the holder. He was tearing up the washable pads by chewing on the edges but if the edges are covered, maybe he won’t ruin all those. Thanks!
