I don’t even know how the conversation started but on the way home yesterday, Addie asked me who was my favorite president. I told her and asked her who was her favorite president. Then we had this conversation:
Addie: Do you know who the president was who dropped the bomb that ended World War 2?
Me: Truman!
Addie: Good, Granny! Did you know he married his high school sweetheart?
Me: Yes.
Addie: How did you know this?
Me: We live in the middle of Truman country! Every little town in this area has a school named Truman.
Addie: Did you know he had to memorize the eye chart so he could pass the eye test to join the military?
Me: No! I did not know that.
Last night she was playing a song for off youtube. It listed all the presidents. Then, there was an ad and she said “Oh, who is that man that comes out around July 4 every year?” I had no idea. She said “Nevermind . . it’s Uncle Sam.”
She’s so funny. She seems to like history and science. She does not like spelling and math. I wonder if that will change. I wonder if her career will be in history or science. She did ask me last night . . “How old do I have to be to retire?” I told her . . “If I were you, I’d not count on Social Security. Save as much as you can, plan ahead, never go in debt and maybe you can retire early!”

I have some fun conversations with my 7 yr old grandson, who is just finishing 1st grade. Things he learns in school that he is so excited about teaching me. I play dumb and he goes on and on. I love these conversations. I am so happy you are close to Addie now!

Very good advice!

You probably are already aware of this, but Harry Truman’s birthplace is in Lamar. I can remember taking school field trips there in elementary school WAY back in the day!

I do know that. The closest school to us is Bess Truman and there’s a Truman in Addie’s town.
