I picked Addie up after school today and when we got home, she went down to see Oscar. Vince was down there and I was checking on my canning operation in the kitchen. I heard Oscar start screaming and I figured Addie had stepped on his foot. He’s so wild and gets right under your feet. He was really screaming and kept on so I hollered down the stairs to ask what happened? Vince said he didn’t know. Great! The dog is dying and no one has a clue what happened so I ran down the stairs. Oscar came running to me, still hollering. I picked him up and he was soaking wet! As I cuddled him, he stopped screaming.
Just walking up to him, Addie had scared him half to death and he peed all over himself, his bed and the floor – thankfully the tile floor.
It took about 5 minutes before he calmed down enough that I could put him down and go change my clothes and clean up the mess. Now he’s playing with Addie and won’t leave her alone.
Being afraid is so unlike my previous dachshunds. They would all have gone after anything or anyone with no regard to their size. Not Oscar! I don’t think I have a very good watch dog unless someone gets close enough to him that he seriously thinks he’s in danger and then he’ll start screaming like he’s dying.

I’m glad that I was not eating or drinking when I read this! Thanks for the belly laugh. I could see the whole thing.

Poor baby. And poor Addie. I bet that scared her too! She probably thought she was going to get in trouble for scaring him. The more she is around him, the better it will be!

I havve two dachshunds and one is not afraid. The other one is scared so easily. With the tornado that hit us she is hiding a lot on the other side of the bed shaking and shaking. We are all OK and the houses are livable but we have so much damage. A little at a time. After a week the little girl is a lot less aftaid.

Oh, that poor baby!! Hahaha!! I’ll bet Abbie was as shook up as Oscar was when it first happened. Hope you’re all recovered!!

I thought you were going to say she had spilled something on him and he hated getting wet. 😛

My 9 lb longhair, Neuschie, was not afraid of anything as a puppy. I brought him everywhere, always having kibble in my pocket to hand to someone to give a treat. Now he’d go home with anyone, I swear. Tried that with his 7 lb sister. She is a submissive pee-er anyway, always has been. She wouldn’t take a treat from anyone. Yet when anyone comes into the house she will immediately bring them a toy. Won’t drop it for them but at least brings it. Then will roll over to show belly. The rest of my pack are typical brave Dachshunds.

He’ll be great after he’s done being a lil guy 🙂
