Cranberry Christmas has been such a fun project. I doubt I finish it today but it could happen tomorrow.
I feel like I got a lot done yesterday . . for me anyway. It seems the only time I really get any stitching done is between about 9 p.m. and 1 a.m. Vince goes to bed about 10. Oscar has usually slowed down, though he gets a crazy wild streak about midnight and that involves playing fetch til I can wear him down. Then I finish up whatever I had to get finished and go to bed.
Above is the photo I posted Sunday morning where I had stopped on Saturday night. So, yesterday I got the berries in the basket on top of the house, I got the wreath above the house mostly stitched; I got the three black squares stitched above the house. I was a bit worried about that part. I’m always concerned where things have to be centered and have to line up just right.
I got part of a tree done on the right side of the house. I got a good bit done below the numbers at the bottom, including one of the birds.
What I hope to get done today:
- The bough on the top right, including down the right side.
- The bough down the left side.
- The center below the house, including the right bird.
If I can get all that done, I should be able to finish on Tuesday. Fingers crossed!

I received my Corgi Caboodle today!! Now I have to go buy the floss and the linen. Do you know how big the finished project is?? Or do you have your pattern yet??

It should say on the chart. It will depend on what count linen you use. I haven’t even looked at it yet.

I am going to do Cranberry Christmas but on 28 count aida. The linens I’ve seen recommended are winter brew linen,123 stitch, and sand dune which you are using. May I have your suggestion on a color that would work.

I’ll do a blog post and put a pohto of winter brew next to the sand dune I’m using and maybe that will help. I totally love and dune but any color that leans toward mustard is going to be a favorite for me.

It calls for 40 count, but that is going to be very small!! I went to Hobby Lobby today and the largest they had was 22 count. I know that is half of what it called for, but I can see those little squares! My eyes are not good enough for 40 count. I got about a yard of that and I think that should be large enough to do it and still have a border. I will mark it off and see what it looks like and decide from there. I think with the smaller count I need to use 2 threads instead of one. What do you think? I got two of each thread just in case. It is so inexpensive, I thought I should be more safe than sorry! LOL Thanks for your help!

II am not familiar with a 22 count fabric so please take what I’m going to say with a grain of salt. If the 22 count is linen and you’re stitching over two threads, the finished size of the stitching is going to be 10-1/2″ x 16-7/8″.
The cross stitch calculator says to use 3 strands of floss. If you are using three strands, you may run short on the Onyx. I’m using 1 strand and I’m not going to run out of Onyx but I don’t think I would trust two skeins on a 22 count fabric.

So do you think I need to use 2 or 3? I think the 22 count has bigger holes than the 40 count. I am going to count the 10 stitches each way (horizontal and vertical) also I will show the middle. I am going to do like you do and start in the upper left corner. I am not going to cut the linen until I count out the stitches. I am going to leave about a 2″ border all the way around. Are you still using stitches or are you using the threads? I think I would do better with the threads. I may use a color about the same as the linen. I don’t know yet. Just thinking about it right now. I trust your judgement because you have done this more than I have and you know what you are doing.

If you’re going to frame it, you may want to leave a bit more than 2″ on each side, depending on how big you want your border to be.
I’m not sure what you’re asking – whether I use stitches or threads??
Nelle Coursey says
There is a grid of 10 stitches. But it says to use only 1 thread. Do I need to use 3 instead of one since I am using the larger linen? Hope this makes sense! It is late and I am getting tired. LOL getting old and I don’t even have a puppy!

It says to use one thread for 40 count linen. The cross stitch calculator said to use 3 strands on 22 count. Personally, I cannot say you need 3 strands because I’ve never stitched that count. It’s sometimes hard to say the words someone else understands – happens to all of us . . but I don’t want to tell you the wrong thing.
If I were you, I’d stitch a few stitches near the edge where it won’t use. Use two threads, then use three threads and see which one you like best. I’d try for two threads because I think three threads is going to be kinda bulky but again . . I just don’t know.
