My knitting mojo may have returned. I had mentioned when The Loopy Ewe was having their retiring sale that I had found a couple of sweater patterns I kinda wanted to knit and ordered a bit of yarn but I’ve been busy with cross stitching with the model stitch and the stitch along. Yesterday I had an email about a new sweater pattern and it really caught my attention.
I need a few looser fitting sweaters that I can throw on over whatever I happen to be wearing and go! Yesterday I had on a decent T-shirt and jeans. Vince same in and wanted to go get fried fish. I never say no to that and I thought about wearing a light jacket but it was really warm outside but inside the restaurant, I was freezing. The vent was blowing right on me and I almost suggested we move but figured most every place was going to be cold. It was after we got home that I saw this pattern and thought . . perfect!
The pattern says that dark colors or mottled colors aren’t great because the design will get lost. I told myself that the first yarn I found that was the right weight and I had the right amount . . I was using it, no matter what color it was. Since I’m more concerned with loose fitting so I can wear it over whatever I might already have on and since black/gray will go with red, lime green, gray – almost anything I might be wearing, I was happy to use the yarn, which is Madelinetosh DK Twist.
I did a quick swatch, soaked it, blocked it, put it out in the sun to dry and it was close to perfect, which doesn’t usually happen for me. I’m a loose knitter and usually have to go down a needle size but not this time. I’m wondering if, since I haven’t knitted in over a year maybe my knitting is a bit different. Who knows?
The pattern is written for a beginner sweater knitter and though there were some terms I wasn’t familiar with, there are video references so everything was easy to figure out. The pattern is written so the back can be shaped with German short rows, which I’ve made hundreds of times but forgot how so I had to watch the video for those.
It felt good to be knitting again but I’ll put the knitting aside, at least for most of today, and get back to cross stitching.

You just don’t know how happy your Facebook post about knitting this sweater made me last night! And you are right, there is a YouTube video for anything about knitting. I’ve taught my 80+ year old mother to knit and how to watch YouTube videos–you should see what she has been making and she loves knitting!

There’s a difference in “I can’t do something” and “I just don’t want to do it badly enough to learn”. I always told Chad – don’t say you wish you knew how to do something . . if you want to learn to do anything, in this day, there’s a way.

Pretty! My mother always told me not to let a knitting project sit for more than 2 weeks without knitting on it, because your knitting will change in that amount of time. (She never had more than 2 projects going at a time, while I have about 15) It’s good advice, but I have never followed it. I have so many UFO’s right now, and I keep starting new projects instead of finishing any of them…

I found your blog Fairly recently through Jo Kramer. I’m also a x-stitcher, knitter, quilter, gardener and Grandma. I love to read your older blog posts about knitting and quilting. Can you please help me find them?

You should be able to put “quilting” or “knitting” in the search bar near the bottom left of the right sidebar and find them.
