I really do seem to stress about the fabric for the larger pieces I’m going to stitch. The model for A Saviour’s Praise was stitched on Beach Brew by R & R. I don’t have that linen and am determined to stitch this piece on something I have here.
The fabric needs to be larger than a fat quarter – it needs to be at least a fat half unless the fabric is purchased from somewhere that will cut exactly what you need. Since I’ll be using stash fabric, it will have to be a fat half so that limits my choices.
At first, I had pulled Prairie Grass by Seraphim.
I kept feeling like I should go with something just a tad more tan because Beach Brew is a bit more tan. Wednesday evening I had looked at all my 36 count linen and all my 40 count linen to see what might work. I had added two more choices to the project bag.
Yesterday I opened the February package from the XJu Designs fabric club and my first thought was . . this may work for A Saviour’s Praise.
Last night I did a few stitches with one of the colors I was a bit concerned about and it hardly shows.
Back to the drawing board. At least as I eliminate colors of linen, that gets me closer to knowing what I want when I do see it. I may end up having to go with a 36 count, which isn’t a huge problem. I think I saw a couple of colors of 36 count in the stash that I liked but was still hoping to find the perfect 40 count.
There’s rarely a perfect fabric that works perfectly with all the floss colors, especially on reproduction type samplers where there’s usually a tan fabric and several tan floss colors. Even when using the called for fabric, different counts seem to dye up differently and then there are the different dye lots.
I’ll just start out with the fabric I think will work best, then I’ll make color adjustments as required. Since I won’t start stitching on this one til mid-April, I’m going to zip the project bag and put it aside for a while. There’s stitching to be done!
