I try to keep sad stories and bad news off the blog. I know that everyone has their own problems and I always felt like the blog should be a place where people come to laugh – sometimes with me and sometimes at me – and no one wants to hear my sob stories. Even when I’m complaining about Vince, I try to do it in a funny way, knowing that all who have husbands will know that sometimes, you just have to laugh instead of crying.
But . . yesterday . .
It was weird because Monday I had so much energy and felt so good and stayed in the kitchen really working hard all day. By bedtime Monday night, I was feeling awful. My throat was instantly so sore I couldn’t swallow so I knew it was sinus problems. I took a sinus med and went to bed. I woke up feeling worse so when Vince got up, I asked him if he would entertain Oscar so I could go back to bed. I also asked Vince if he would call the doctor’s office after they opened and see if he could see me. They could see me at 11:00. We both went and then we stopped by the Mexican restaurant to eat, and then as I mentioned in a previous post, we went by Target to get milk and Vince bought more “blue men”.
We got home about 1:15 p.m. and I took another nap. When I got up, I got on Facebook and there had been a horrible incident in Joplin. Three police officers were shot. I haven’t looked at news this morning. There is a press conference by the Police Department scheduled for 9 a.m. but, last I heard, one officer died, one was critical and one was serious but stable. The suspect was also shot and died.
These things should not happen! It’s just so sad. So very sad for the families and loved ones of the officers, so sad for their fellow officers . . those on the Joplin Police Department, surrounding police departments and really, all law enforcement officers, and so sad for our community.
We were never in any danger but the parking lot where it happened is actually connected to the Target parking lot where we were. Had we still been there, we would have been able to see some of the activities. I think I read that the first call for help came in at 1:22 p.m. Since we got home at 1:15, we probably left the area about 1:00. The guy whose actions resulted in the call, was probably already there by the time we left.
Many people say Joplin is a city full of crime. I’m sure some areas are worse than others. I’ve never felt unsafe in Joplin, though we rarely get off the beaten path and we’re never out after dark. But, this was in the middle of the day, at one of the busiest shopping areas in town.
Nowhere is truly safe any more it seems.
Please pray for the injured officers, their families, all law enforcement officers and their spouses.
Another weird thing is that we’ve been calling Oscar’s toy “the blue man” and we were right there just minutes before all this happened. I told Vince I wasn’t going to change the name of the toy but on second thought, I’m going to continue calling it “the blue man” and every time I do, I’ll remember to pray for all law enforcement officers and their families.

So So Sad, I join you and many others when I say , this should not happen , but it does. I join you in prayers for their families and will keep them in my thoughts and prayers. Hoping their families receive help and knowing the police are like a big family, it will hit all of them. I love that you will keep “the Blue Man”. Hope you can get on top of this nasty sinus problem, maybe Oscar will attach to Vince while you sleep.

I took a nap this morning and I think Vince and Oscar had been playing “fetch” with the blue man and Oscar was one tired puppy. That’s always good! 🙂

This is so sad and sometimes I just shake my head and wonder what this world is coming to. I’m glad that you weren’t there when this was happening. My brother in law is in law enforcement and what happens to one, affects all…even across the country. Prayers for their families and brothers and sisters in arms.

Please thank your brother-in-law for me! Like you, I see the future looking worse and worse.

Working with NSW Police for 29 years (as an unsworn officer) I know how hard these things hit the blue family. We ourselves have had a loss this week which I’m sure will be hard on those who worked with him or knew him. xx

Prayers to the families of all …

I saw this on FB and immediately said a prayer that you nor any member of your family were anywhere near this! I don’t know why I had those thoughts, But I am so glad you are all safe!! I feel so sorry for the policemen and women with everything they have to go through every day. They never know when they go out on a call if they will be going home that evening. Same with firemen. The medevac helicopter from here goes right over our house. Every time I hear one, I stop and say a little prayer for whoever is on board and pray they will be ok.

I forgot to add that I hope you are ok and it was just a small sinus infection or something small like that. They can make you feel so bad sometimes. I take Zyrtec every day but sometimes even that doesn’t help and I have to take one of the D’s. Get well soon!!

I take Zyrtec every day too but the doctor had me switch to Singular and something else Xy”something”. I’ll take the Singular every day and then the Xy”something” when I start feeling bad. I may have that backwards. I have to go back Tuesday for more bloodwork so I’ll get him to remind me when I’m feeling better. Thanks!

so glad you are going to be ok. I have been having a headache for the last several days and figured it was sinus problems coming on. Take care!!

So sad and unsettling. My brother was in law enforcement for years. I always had this dread in the back of my mind that we’d get a call in the middle of the night that he’d been shot. Thankfully, that didn’t happen and he’s now retired. ~ Hope you feel better soon!
