As long as I continue to blog, there will always be blog posts but . . what do you think about short youtube videos in addition to the posts? There are times when I feel like I wish I could sit down and have a Dr. Pepper and you could have coffee or tea and we could just chat. I think I get my point across better sometimes with a real chat but I don’t know how to edit and I don’t know how to make great videos so . . I’ve been playing around a bit with them.
I did one tonight talking about some of the things I’ve learned cross stitching in the past year. It definitely needs improvement but, here it is:
There are floss tubes I love and I wouldn’t mind if they were two hours long. There are some I like but after about 15 minutes, I wander off to something else.
IF I add videos, I would try to keep them around 12 – 15 minutes.
It most everyone would rather NOT watch videos, then I won’t bother with learning to do better. So . . tell me what you think.

I like the video idea

i enjoyed the video, and sometimes it is easier for me to learn watching someone do it rather than reading it. When I want to know how to do something my go to is to look it up on youtube. You do a good job of explaining and I like the time you did, short enough to watch without getting bored.
judy.blog@gmail.com says
Thanks. I have a lot to learn. We’ll see if an old dog can learn new tricks.
Shauna Trueblood says
I am sure you can learn anything you set your mind to
judy.blog@gmail.com says
I’m sure you mean . . “Except how to put things together from reading the instructions!” 🙂

Love hearing you. Like stitching and everything else, you’ll get better at producing a video, though I thought this was fine. But, you’re losing your Southern accent! I miss that.
Donna in KS says
I should have added that I learned from your video! Thanks for sharing.
Vivian Oaks says
I wouldn’t mind videos, but at the same time, do you really have to worry about them being “TV-ready” quality? You wouldn’t have to on my account. I haven’t listened to this one yet, and I don’t know what your Southern accent sounded like before, so I won’t be able to compare! LOL! If I’m learning something new, seeing is done is a great way for me to learn. I’m a visual learner, so seeing something done makes it so much easier for me. Thanks for asking!! 🙂

I really enjoyed your video and learned some different ways to do things. Thanks
Could you please video yourself as u talk? Keep it up!
judy.blog@gmail.com says
I will do that as soon as we’re out of the basement. 🙂

I like the length of your video. Sometimes floss tubes are just to long to watch. I was wondering what a pin stitch was I had know idea.
Linda B says
I would love to watch your videos. Just chatting, cooking, sewing, stitching – all would be fun to watch. Hope you decide to do it.

Some things are really easier to see on a video, so it if really makes sense, go for it. But I would suggest to keep them more like 5-10 minutes.
Please don’t do everything as a video when words and pictures will do just as well. I feel like I can read a post much faster than I can watch a video covering the same information.
Also can I suggest that you stick to one topic on a video? I don’t mind reading about all your various projects, but since I don’t cross stitch, I may not watch a video of some technique, but I don’t want to miss updates on Vince or Addie or Boots, etc.
Rebecca says
.That’s an excellent point, Katherine! When it’s printed, it’s easy to scan and see what I want to read (sometimes there are multiple topics), but can’t do that with a video.
Diane in CA says
I liked your video and I don’t even cross stitch.. I think videos in horizontal format are the standard so maybe try that with the next video?
Pat D says
I enjoyed the video. You explained the pin stitch in an easy-to-understand way, and the video wasn’t too long. It would be a great occasional feature for explaining how to do something. A lot of people like videos for learning new techniques. Usually, though, I would prefer the blog with pictures, because it’s much faster for me to read the information than listen to it, and it’s also easier to go back and re-read something than to find the right spot in a video to re-listen.

Loved the video and the information. Love the blog too!

I enjoyed the video – that being said, I have the attention span of a gnat – 5-10 minutes each would be my preference. And I’d love to see you during the video:)
Carolyn Sands says
The video is a great idea! There are many people who are visual learners and I feel it would be very beneficial.

Am only interested in the blog, where I can skip to topics that interest me. Time is precious, and I try to avoid going down rabbit trails while procrastinating what I want to / should be doing.
Elle says
I don’t make the time to watch/listen to videos. I am a fast reader and videos don’t hold my interest. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t!!
Laurie says
I enjoy your blog and reading about your family and various projects. I started this way back in the day when you were into quilting. I would not take the time to watch a video.
judy.blog@gmail.com says
Thanks. I’m feeling the same way – a video every now and then but not often and not to replace the posts.
Carmen Montmarquet says
I’m new to you and enjoyed this video. I have not started this cross stitch yet, trying to learn as much as possible first. Any tips are very much appreciated! I hope you continue to make videos!
Sally says
I liked the video and I am with those that say a short video every now and then is good but don’t replace the blog posts with videos. Also wanted to say that I am deaf and was concerned I wouldn’t get anything from the videos but they are captioned, so no worries!
Pamela says
I don’t mind an occasional video, but I prefer to read. I find videos waste so much time for me. If there were pictures and words I can skim through and get the info I need in a matter of seconds or minutes. With a video you are stuck watching it for however long it lasts. Then if there is one thing that you need to know, invariably you miss it and have to search the video. Then there is no easy way that I know of to save that one snippet.’
I haven’t watched your video yet. I will probably change my mind about videos after seeing it. I do enjoy them once in a while, but not as the main source of communication.
Julie says
I enjoyed the video, and I thought the length of it was perfect.
Marie says
Hi Judy, thanks so much for your video! The “new start” was very very helpful! I really enjoyed your tutorial!!
Barb says
Judy, I liked your video. I learned the pin stitch, I didn’t know about this. Very helpful. I’m a visual learner and enjoy watching tutorial type videos. Thank you 🙂
Sheryl says
…I’m not much for watching videos. I try and have several ready to view but they’ve been ready to view for quite a while. It’s hard for me to pay attention to them for very long.
moneikquilts says
I loved the video! It’s fun to hear your voice and see you explain what you’re doing. I also prefer short videos.
