Before we put rugs and furniture back on the floors, I took pictures. I feel like I never do a good job showing things like this so . . hope you get an idea of what I’m trying to show.
When you come in from the garage, you walk through a little hallway. Straight ahead is the breakfast room and too the right is the sun room. I’m taking this picture of one end of the breakfast room from the sun room.
The photo below shows the rest of the breakfast room. It’s a long rooom.
This photo below shows the kitchen. We’re facing the fridge with the wall oven to the right. The opening between those to goes toward the dining room/family room and stairs.
The photo below was taken from the kitchen opening. The red walls are the dining room. The stairs separate the dining room from the family room.
This photo below shows the stairs with the dining room and foyer to the left and then the family room is to the right.
Last photo – the hallway with the bedrooms and guest bath.
That was a lot of wood to have to be redone because of about a 4′ x 4′ damaged area but there was no stopping spot where it wouldn’t show. You can also see that we can’t come in the front door; we couldn’t come through the garage and get to the stairs so we were stuck walking around the house from the garage to the basement for all of February. What’s weird is that we did have a lot of snow and a lot of ice but it wasn’t terrible. After about two weeks, we could walk on the wood floor with our socks so we would take our shoes off and leave them in the garage and walk across the floor to go downstairs. That helped a lot.
I told Vince today . . I think we could put rugs down and move the dining room and breakfast room furniture back, get the sofa put back where it belongs but he said no . . we’re waiting the full time. Next week . . Tuesday . . we can move the furniture back. I can’t wait.

The floors look beautiful, and with a new puppy it might be a good idea to continue vacationing in the basement till the full time is up!

We’ll continue to mostly stay in the basement and both dogs will stay in the basement – at least til Oscar is big enough that he can’t fit through the spindles on the stair opening.
In the summer, the basement stays so much cooler and with energy costs going up, it will be better for us to stay in the basement as much as we can anyway. It’s easier to get out to the garden and to take the dogs out back to walk but . . the only kitchen is on the main level so I’ll still cook and we’ll still eat up there.

Beautiful floors, so tempted to have real wooden floors put down. Question: are they easy to keep in tip top condition?
judy.blog@gmail.com says
So long as the dishwasher doesn’t drown them! 🙂
They are so easy. These were put in when the house was built 18 years ago and had never had anything done to them and I’m sure they would have gone many more years had it not been for the dishwasher incident.
The former owner told me she’s only used a bit of vinegar in her mop water. Also, they had a dog in the house for many years.
There are many kinds of wood floors and all I can speak of is the type we have here but I will say the carpet in this house has been changed at least once and the wood floors still seemed perfect after 18 years.

The floors came out beautifully. I love them. I’m slowly getting out of Dachshund Rescue so I’ll be having the living room floors refinished at that point.

They did a beautiful job refinishing the floors. So clean and shiny!

They really did and he put a finish on them that he said would not need to be redone (barring any really weird things happening) as long as we live here. Jeremy said they had put a “gymnasium” finish on it when they built the house and it lasted 18 years. The guy who refinished them said the new finish would last that long. Makes me happy!

The floors are beautiful! And I dont why, but I was surprised to see that they are the “old fashioned” narrow strips instead of planks.

Right! These are the real oak strips.
