Good grief. I forgot how much puppies chew and how on earth does he find every little morsel that’s on the floor. When I make floss tags, the hole puncher catches most of the holes that pop out and IF one falls to the floor, I usually (I thought) see it, pick it up and throw it away. I’ve only made maybe 6 floss tags while in the basement and every day, Oscar finds a hole on the floor.
Our dining room chairs have pads on the feet because they all sit on wood floor but the ones downstairs . . Oscar keeps pulling the pads off. With the chairs sitting on carpet, how does he even know there’s a pad on them?
He will also sit on the carpet and chew on the carpet. He’ll get his teeth in the right spot and first thing you know, he’s pulling the carpet up off the floor.
Feet! Oh, my . . those puppy teeth hurt. Yesterday the vet said “I’ll trim his nails and get the sharp points off them.” I thought . . can you trim the teeth?
It’s funny how much I’ve forgotten about having a puppy .. which is probably a good thing or I would never have gotten another one.
We love watching him. I suppose all puppies are the same but he’ll play and play and run and jump on his toys. He’ll play with one for a few minutes, then go to another. Then after about 20 minutes of playing hard, he’ll get in his bed and sleep for a couple of hours. We sure are having fun with him.

The last time I had a puppy I had 2 at once. One was a non-stop chewer and the other was a nibbler, he wanted to chew my hand more than any toy. And you are right puppy teeth hurt. I did get some chew deterrent that helped, it was called bitter something. I put it on things my chewer went after, but once it was on he didn’t normally go back to that item. I’m not sure I have the energy for a puppy any more, they are so fun to play with, but man are they a lot of work.

Shauna, I believe the spray you used might have been Bitter Apple. I have used it many times when my dogs were puppies. Most of them were deterred from chewing the items sprayed but I have also had a dog or two who liked it! I love puppies, but I sure am glad Judy is pointing out how much work they are because I definitely don’t need any more. Every time I see a puppy, I want to get another one but I am definitely thinking twice about it!

We adopted little Baxter 4 months ago and I got Bitter Cherry and he was licking it as it came out of the bottle. Go figure! So I got Yuck at PetSmart and works great, especially on the carpet. They are little stinkers and we wonder how we lived without him. Oscar sure is cute. Sharon in Colorado (I’m the gal that gave you the zucchini bread recipe)

Isn’t it weird how some puppies are chewers–labs are notorious–and some are not. Emmi didn’t chew on anything–nothing. But she was a royal pain in the rear to potty train!

We went to puppy classes with our Molly a long time ago and they told us when she chewed on our fingers to make a high pitched sound likeei, eI ei..hard to describe but it’s the sound a mother dog or sibling would make if the biting was hurting. 2 or 3 times was all it took. For the other stuff they said to distract wit something that she was allowed to chew. We watched her all the time for the first few months and it really paid off. We miss her every single day.

I’ll never forget my inlaws getting a little puppy and my FIL sitting in his recliner with oven mitts on his hands and the puppy in his lap. It kept his hands safe but sure looked odd.
