When we put the bassinet next to the bed, I thought Oscar could get out. Vince said no . . he couldn’t get out of it. I had put rubber mats around it and left an opening so I could reach over and pet him. This morning about 3:30, he came sailing into the bed. I got up and took him outside and came back in and put him back in the bassinet. He was back in the bed before I got in. Vince said “Just let him stay!” I knew that was not a good idea because it would be something he would expect but I was sleepy. He wanted to play and chew on my hand, on the pillow, on the quilt. Vince said “I’m going upstairs” I and he got up and left and went back to sleep.
I did go back to sleep but it was after 4:30 and I got up a little after 5. I’m sleepy but hope I can make it through the day without taking a nap. I’m not sure what our plan is for tonight. Getting him used to the crate is the best idea.
The first day we got him, he was a bit reserved and quiet. He played but not non-stop. Sunday Chad, Nicole and Addie came and Oscar acted somewhat normal. Yesterday . . he was like a kid who’s had too much sugar. I believe he’s definitely feeling comfortable in his new surroundings.

Every time we get a puppy, I just let them get through the first 2 or 3 nights that I know that they are going to cry in the crate. After that, it becomes their refuge. I say just put him in the crate and get it over with. You will be much happier. Don’t let him start coming to bed with you. That will just make it harder to get him crate trained.

Puppy nights are the hardest! When you put him in the crate at night, put in an old t-shirt that you wore during the day so he has your smell to comfort him. This is one instance where the stinkier (I was going to put smellier but that’s not a word…lol) the better!

Little Oscar sounds like such a sweet pup!
When we got our Murphy, our breeder said to set up his crate next to the bed and if he cried to just put our fingers inside through the crate holes so he knew we were there. It seemed to work. He only cried the first night and he slept through the night. He was a bit older than Oscar though at 12 weeks.

I love it. Vince says “let him stay” and then turns around and says “I’m going upstairs”. Hmmm. LOL
