A reader shared these Soupercubes and they are cute and they look useful but they cost more than I’m willing to spend. Here’s what I use.
These are Ziplock Twist ‘N Loc. They come in 16 oz. and 32 oz. sizes and are not much over $1 for the 16 oz. cup and lid. Those come in packs of three. The 32 oz. are about $1.50 each and they come in packs of two. I get them at Walmart.
Today we had green beans and that’s what’s in the one shown above. Any time we have veggies leftover that would work well in soup but there isn’t enough left to save for another meal, I dump them into a container and stick it in the freezer. Next meal, we may have leftover corn, or okra, or black beans . . whatever we have will get added to this container until it gets full.
With the lid on, they stack nicely and securely in the freezer. Once I get 8 or 10 of these, which doesn’t take as long as you might think, I’ll make a pot of soup using all the leftover, already seasoned veggies.
By the way, we got these containers at the pallet store. They have the Atlanta Falcons logo and I think we paid $5 for about 20 of them.

I have done this for years with leftover bits. Adding bits of meat, gravy or mashed veg like sweet potatoes as well. When the taller container is full I add broth and maybe left over pasta and make biscuits. It’s always really good but usually not repeatable.
