Yesterday when we went to Walmart, there were only a few things we needed. I wanted to look for wide mouth quart jars and lids. Vince needed a heavy duty extension cord.
Friends have been posting that they can find regular mouth quart jars but no wide mouth quarts. I felt confident I was going to walk in and find them but I didn’t. They had tons of jars! Several brands/types of regular mouth quarts, several brands/types of pints, including wide mouth . . but no wide mouth quarts. I bought a couple of packs of regular mouth quart jars just to have quarts if I need them. I wanted to buy three packs of regular and wide mouth lids.
The regular mouth lids were about $2.80 but the wide mouth lids were marked $5.97. I told Vince . . I’m not paying that much.
Then I noticed the packages with lids AND rings were $3.97. I figured that was a mistake but that’s clearly how they’re labeled. I did the price check with my phone and yes, the lids by themselves were $3.97 and the rings with the lids were $5.97 . . which makes sense but if someone went in there and picked up a package of lids/rings, thinking they were going to get it for $3.97, I hope they would be paying attention when checking out.
Vince picked up the heavy duty extension cord. We did the self check so I was looking at the receipt because it seemed like way more money than I thought it should be. I asked Vince . . was that cord almost $46? I was thinking $20 but I was way off. He said “I’m pretty sure the tag on the shelf said $35.” He took the cord and the receipt back to the department where he found it and, yes, the price listed on the shelf was $35. Vince showed it to the guy working back there and he called up to customer service and they refunded the extra $11.
Vince said he figured the price has gone up in the computer but they haven’t yet put the new price on the shelf.
You have to constantly be aware. I understand staff shortages, and prices going up faster than they can get it all changed in the store but when we bought four things and three of the four had price mix ups .. that’s not good.
Y’all be careful when shopping!

At least you found canning jar lids! I haven’t seen any in the stores for over a year. I don’t do much canning, but I like to keep some lids on hand just in case…

I can’t find plain saltine crackers anywhere! Also no Ritz crackers anywhere!! I was able to buy Club Crackers, Cheeze-Its and some cheese straw crackers at Brookshires! There is no store in town that has them! I heard people are now hoarding them! This is not just here but all over the US!

I can’t imagine hoarding crackers because they go rancid fairly quickly. I can see hoarding canned foods maybe but things that go rancid . . not sure what they’re thinking. Here, we haven’t had a problem with crackers. The biggest problem I’ve seen, besides prices is the lack of meat available. We use turkey pepperoni and when at Walmart the other day, I asked about it and the lady said they haven’t been able to get it for a while but yet Aldi had it. Aldi here has plenty of saltines and a variety of other crackers. I think they had Ritz too but I’m not sure.
It does seem to be more regional because almost everything, other than meat, that people say they can’t get, we can still find and the things we can’t get, they say they have it. It’s all crazy.

It is crazy!! I have not tried Aldi!! I will go there and see if they have any! Thanks for suggesting that. There are none at Family Dollar, Brookshires, United or Walmart! I did not try Big Lots either. This is really dumb! There is also no canned cat food or canned dog food at Brookshires!!

I would guess that if ALL those places don’t have them, chances are Aldi won’t either. Here, we basically have just Walmart and Aldi. There are 7 Walmarts within 20 minutes or so of our house and even though they’re all the same basically, sometimes if one is out of something, another store has a good supply of it. I hope you find crackers.
I meant to say in the comment yesterday, another friend from Brownwood has told me several times about the cracker situation there so that’s why I’ve been on alert as to the amount of crackers we have in our stores.

–In our town it’s Rice Krispies, who would have thought…

I haven’t even thought about Rice Krispies in forever. It’s all so weird and such a different way of grocery shopping these days. When I make my menu plan, I usually make it for four days each week but now I’ve added a 5th day so if there’s something I can’t get, I just scratch that item off my list and still have four days worth of ingredients.
