I’m beginning to believe that no matter how many borders I stitch, I’ll always celebrate putting in those last few stitches and having a border meet up. Honestly, I’m always happy and surprised when they meet perfectly.
As you know, I am not an expert cross stitcher. In fact, I still consider myself pretty much a beginner. I don’t know all the correct terms. I call the outer border . . the outer border. If there are inner borders, I will call them inner border #1 (closest to the body of the stitching), then inner border #2, working my way out. The main part of the stitching, I call “the body”.
On this particular border, I worked the top border all the way across the piece. Next, I worked the left border about two-thirds of the way down. Then I worked the top row of stitching in the main body. Once I could see that the top row of stitching for the body, matched up to where it should on the top border, I stitched the right border all the way down.
Next I did two rather large motifs – almost top to bottom. You can see the white thread going across? I call that a “registration line” and I ran that from right to left and that’s where a pertinent part of the two main motifs was supposed to cross. Both of those lined up with that registration line and with the two side borders so I was confident the bottom left border and the left side of the bottom border would match up.
They did! I’m happy!
