Our sweet neighbor is bringing dinner for us today. They’re Italians and they live about 4 hours from their families. I think they all feel like Vince is their grandfather. They’re the ones with the funny boys we like. Anyway, we’ve heard about the guy’s chicken stew since Day 1 so yesterday he made it. She texted me to see if she could bring some over but I didn’t see her text til late so when I wrote her, she said she would bring it over this morning. Also, he grows some kind of super hot peppers and makes a “famous” hot sauce every year so they’re bringing us a bottle of that.
I’ve always been the one to take food to others and I don’t know that I remember a time when someone has brought a meal to us. I’m sure it’s happened . . I’m just not remembering it. We go to the home of friends from time to time to eat but just to have a meal brought in . . especially at a time when we’re basically living in the basement . . perfect timing.
I do remember one time – I had my gall bladder removed in Kentucky (when really . . I had a kidney stone . . poor gall bladder got taken out for nothing) but the lady who was my volunteer partner at Chad’s school brought dinner – homemade chicken noodle soup and a cake. Yum. I had forgotten about that.
I’m sure if I think more about it, I’ll remember another time or two. My friend since kindergarten, who is also a night owl . . one night when Chad was 7, I was sick. She called and I told her I couldn’t talk because my throat was hurting so badly. After while, there was a knock on my door (before the days of cell phones) at 3 a.m. and I could hear Sarah saying “IT’S ME!”. She had gone to the all night grocery and bought a jar of dill pickles and popsicles. She told me to eat the pickles and suck on the popsicles and it would make my throat feel better. I don’t know if it did or not but it surely has been a funny story that we both still talk about . . all these years later.
Oh, goodness . . the stories Sarah and I could tell of our 60+ year friendship. Thank goodness, we both know which stories to share and which stories to never mention! 🙂

It’s wonderful to have friends and neighbors who bring you food! I’ve been undergoing medical treatments that leave me too tired/feeling blah to want to cook. I’ve had friends and neighbors bring me meals on the days that I feel the worst, so I didn’t have to cook. It has been wonderful to have a meal that I didn’t have to make! If it had been up to me on those days, it would have been yet another can of chicken noodle soup. I’ve had so much of that, I don’t want to eat it again any time soon!
