We’ve had some warm days for February. I know winter isn’t over and this area has had snow in early May so I’m not fixing to go out and start planting but . . I’m getting the urge.
The long term weather forecast, which is never right way in advance, but after next week, I don’t see any nights with temps below freezing.
Yesterday I was out with Rita and there are some big reddish bushes (not this time of year because they have no leaves) and I don’t think they’re red-tip photinia but they may be . . but they’re covered in buds. I told them . . it may be a bit early . . be careful! 🙂
We’re going to plant tomatoes in buckets this year . . just to make sure the neighbors REALLY don’t like me . . no, that will free up a raised bed for something else and the self-wicking tomatoes are so much easier. I was thinking about what I want to plant. I have three 4 x 8 beds and four 4 x 4 beds.
One of the 4 x 8 beds has asparagus so that will always be there. I can plant whatever I want in two of those.
In the 4 x 4 beds, one has strawberries so the other three are empty.
Last year I had okra and tomatoes in two of the 4 x 8 beds. I got a lot of okra so I think I’ll plant that again. Maybe I’ll plant green beans in the other 4 x 8 bed. That probably won’t give me enough beans to can. Maybe I should plant green beans in both 4 x 8 beds and not plant okra this year.
I’ll plant peppers in one 4 x 4 bed. I’ll plant herbs in another. Squash . . I need squash!
I think what I need is more land or maybe just more 5 gallon buckets. 🙂

We’ve hit 50 which is warm for February and we were having a discussion this morning about the garden. There are some weeds coming up so I am thinking that tomorrow afternoon I may go out there and putter around. I left some carrots so I will see if they are still edible….lol Today I promised to go with my husband to start clearing out his office. He has a couple more weeks before retiring but he wants to make the office available to his replacement so there’s a bit of clearing to do.

It’s 11 degrees right now but I’m glad to know that spring is coming somewhere. But I can’t complain since it has not been a real icy or snowy winter so far (that would change next week) 🙂 Today it is actually sunny (after a week of gloom) so that’s a nice change. My friend in California sent me photos this week of her lovely blooming roses – so pretty to see there are blooming things out there.

How do you plant tomatoes in buckets? Use garden soil and fill the buckets or leave a few inches at the top? I don’t have room for a garden and planting my tomatoes in a raised (on legs) bed last year didn’t work out. Thanks

No, there are a few extra steps. I’ll find a link to the method we use and share it this evening.
