We may not be having gourmet food but, in my opinion, I’ll eat at home any day over eating out except for just a few restaurants and, sadly, the restaurants I like are the ones Vince likes the least and vice versa. Vince wants inexpensive and lots of food. I want quality. I feel like I can easily make tasteless, crappy food at home for not much money and not much time. I try to cook good meals and therefore, when I go out, I want something at least as good, preferably better, than what I fix at home. Since we so rarely go out to eat, unless we’re stuck in the basement with out a real kitchen, I don’t care so much about the cost. We’re not going to go to Ruth Chris Steakhouse or Fogo de Chao every day but there are some restaurants in Joplin that serve great food and are a bit more than Chick-fil-A or Arby’s (nothing wrong with either of those places – just not what I want every time we go out to eat).
Today we had the rest of the homemade soup. I had frozen the leftovers because I wasn’t sure what day we were going to eat them. I think I took them out of the freezer Tuesday evening and put them in the fridge to defrost, thinking we would have soup on Wednesday. We didn’t so today it was either eat the soup or throw it out. We ate it and Vince said “This soup is so good. Much better than the food we’ve had out recently.” I smiled and said “thank you”.
Then, I put all the dishes in the 5 gallon bucket, made dishwater using the bath tub faucet, put the bucket on the toilet so I would have to bend over to wash the dishes. Washed the dishes you see above, plus a small pot I used to heat the soup, and the skillet I used for the scallops in the air fryer. My work for the day is done.
Back to cross stitching.

My husband is like Vince. He will eat out as long as it is cheap. I, like you, prefer quality. Best of both worlds… eat at home.

Today is day #712. 712 days IN A ROW that I have made dinner for my husband and I. My cooking skills have improved, I’ve become more organized, and guess what? I lost 40 pounds in the first year, and have kept it off during this second year. No, my cooking isn’t bad:), but we’ve stopped eating restaurant food with who knows what in it, and I’ve learned about portion control. I walk every day for 2-3 miles, weather permitting. Would I like a break every now and then? Sure. But do I want to eat that other stuff….ummmm…not so much. Guess you can teach an old dog new tricks 🙂

Good for you! Don’t you wish more people would try that route – especially those who are feeding horrible food to children!
Congratulations on the weight loss and exercise. That’s great!!

We drove 80 miles last Tuesday to eat at a Mexican food restaurant I had read about. We took friends who needed a diversion as he was having surgery the next day. The article raved about this restaurant. Three of the party had OK food, my food was stone cold and awful. With tip it cost us $50–in a Mexican food restaurant!!! Other friends just came to visit in their motorhome and they wanted to take us out to eat. I heard Mike tell them, “the food Janna makes is way better than anything you can find out there.” Made me feel good!

That was very nice. In these days with so much poor service, not so great food and outrageous prices, I’m glad for those of us who don’t mind cooking. I understand how some could not like it at all and I feel bad for them.

Funny but my husband doesn’t like to eat out but he does it when I declare I don’t want to cook….lol Lately though we just pick up dinner and bring it home since we haven’t eaten out in a restaurant in a very long time. I told him that in a couple of weeks things should be better and it might be a good time to try going out.

I have a friend who likes to cook, and likes to go out, too. What puzzles me is that she orders things she cooks for herself. A: isn’t homemade always better? B: I see going out as a chance to eat something you don’t make for yourself. Oh, well, what makes her happy.

For me, the temptation to go out doesn’t come from the food tasting better but from not having to clean the kitchen!
