There are some very interesting things in old boxes that I unpack. It will be a bit sad if I ever get all my boxes unpacked and there are no more treasures to be found. I don’t think I have to worry though . . there’s a slim chance we’ll ever get every box unpacked.
A while back I came across this handful of floss. There are several other colors – I think I saw a Christmas red and green. There’s a little piece of fabric wrapped around two of the skeins but if you notice, all of these colors go together. I remember having that fabric and if I had to guess, I’d say I was going to make curtains with the fabric and do some embroidery pillows with the floss. In the house we built in 1987, the master bedroom carpet was about the shade of the pink in the fabric. I think I sent a swatch of the fabric off to somewhere so they could match the floss for me. But . . am I remembering correctly? I have no idea.

The label says “DMC 16” and it also says “Coton Floche A Broder”.

I have done a bit of research and found the following info on the DMC website.
- It’s a “luxury Egyptian cotton thread”.
- The 10 gram skeins are about 150 yards.
- One strand is close to equal to two strands of DMC embroidery floss.
- There are 5 plies but the strand is not divisible. It is to be used just as it comes off the skein.
I think I’m going to try using the red on a redwork piece . . some day.

I found some of those skeins recently, too. I think I got them for sashiko.

I know I didn’t get them for sashiko but I don’t have a clue what I was planning if it wasn’t embroidered pillows for the bedroom.

I recently did a small rework pillow using Sulky #12, it gave good coverage, and it was a bit easier to thread a few needles at a time. No stopping to separate strands, or untangle them. Currently I am working on a one color Longdog piece called Pilgrims Progress, I’m using one strand of Aurifil #30 in a pretty blue, on 36 count linen. Good coverage, and the thread seems a higher quality than DMC, longer fibers and less shredding.

I’ve seen people complaining about DMC thread lately. I forget about Sulky #12 and I love the coverage it gives.
