I know those things are a safety feature but they about send me over the edge. I think we’ve changed four of those outlets here. We had a few in Texas that had to be changed too but I guess this house is at the age where those things just go out or maybe they go out all the time!
The one in Addie’s bathroom stopped working not long after I got here. Vince wasn’t here to change it. I wasn’t about to try to change it. It was pretty traumatic for Addie because the thing that smells good in her bathroom has to be plugged in. When I had to get an electrician out to change the breaker for the vacuum cleaner, I had him change the outlet in Addie’s bathroom. He told me . . about every 5 years he changes them all out in his house. Yes . . you are an electrician. You can do that!
Vince was here at Thanksgiving and the one in our bathroom stopped working so he changed that one. There’s one in our bathroom right by the toilet, which I’m afraid to even as Jeremy why that’s there, but it has never worked. Vince says “I’ll change it” but hasn’t.
I had no idea the one in the downstairs bathroom wasn’t working til Addie was here a couple of weeks ago and had gadgets plugged into every outlet and decided to use that one too. GRANNY! This plug isn’t working! I reset it and it popped right back out . . which made sense.
There’s a vacuum cleaner kick switch in the bathroom. I had never used it til probably early summer and it didn’t work. Vince said “I’ll get with Jeremy and see what he suggests.” Well . . now I know why it isn’t working and we didn’t even have to ask Jeremy.
I told Vince a couple of days ago . . you need to change out that plug because we’re going to need it for the blow dryer, curling iron, and whatever else he plugs in when in the bathroom. That’s today’s job .. changing out the outlet in the downstairs bathroom. I reminded him about the one in our toilet room but if he doesn’t fix that one, it’s ok .. that can be a project for another day.

I’m with you about those outlets. The 25 year old freezer in our garage quit working a couple of winters ago, so we bought a new one. When the guys delivered it, that one didn’t work either. Tried plugging them into a different outlet via extension cord – and both worked. Turns out the outlet behind the freezer was connected to one of those GFCI outlets in a location we didn’t even know about. When it “tripped”, the rest of the normal outlets connected quit working too. And we kept the new freezer anyway.

Always good to have a new freezer. The breaker that turned off the outlet in the bathroom turned off the plugs and lights in the basement bedroom but the outlets continued to work in there even with the GFCI outlet out. Not sure what else was out but I know the vacuum kick plate in the bathroom wasn’t working. That’s weird. You just never know. I’m glad Vince didn’t tear into the vacuum cleaner when there was nothing wrong with it.

Maybe Jeremy and his wife had a bidet toilet seat–they require power–we have one and LOVE it.

That’s what I was thinking. I think I’d like one, but that would require re-wiring (which we’ve already done in that bathroom–originally there was ONE outlet–right by the sink! (which comes within inches of the wall…no room to set down a hairdryer.)

I think I would like one too but I don’t think that is what this plug was for. It’s probably 18″ from the toilet. I think, since they built the house, if it had been for that, it would been closer to the toilet or more near the back of the toilet. There’s a phone plug in there too. Not sure I want to know all the details. 🙂
