I’m sure Enforcement Officer Denise will be more than happy to respond to my question: Did I say I wasn’t going to buy for the entire year or was it just January? 🙂
The hardest part so far is seeing the mail truck stop, and knowing there’s nothing fun in the box waiting for me. I wonder if the mail lady wonders if I’m still around.
Even Vince noticed and commented. Yesterday, he said “No cross stitch packages this week! What’s the deal?” I told him . . remember, I’m not buying anything? He kinda chuckled . . he doesn’t believe me. He probably thinks I’m having my stuff sent to the neighbor or something.
I did order two hoops yesterday – two of the hoops Jo uses. Addie has shown an interest in stitching and I’m thinking I’ll get her started . . not this trip but maybe the next time, and let her take a project and a hoop home and leave one here and if Nicole might get interested, she can have the second hoop. I have others here Addie can use but I thought it would be nice if she had the exact same hoop to use at home and here. Those weren’t for me so they don’t count on my no buy commitment.
I can do this and I’m sure it gets easier as time goes on . . maybe.

It absolutely gets easier. You will look at your things with new eyes and see how much you have to work with going forward.
I’ve been no-buy since 10/30. Our group allows the 3 B’s when nothing else is right: backings, borders, bindings. I’ve had 1 exception since then, a backing for a special graduation quilt and that was 12/11.
Mom had me doing embroidery at age 4. I’m sure Addie will take to it well 🙂

Get her some fabric with smaller number ( so x are larger. Maybe even some plastic cross stitch. When I taught high school and middle school special needs, we did cross stitch on fabric. The best stitchers were boys. It is similar to her diamond painting. Some of my kids did it on graph paper. That little hen in the free BH& G site is cute.

This could be lots of fun!! You can’t buy for yourself, but you can buy for Addie and Nicole. I love buying stuff for others!!!

Stay strong, keep trying! I am planning a purchase for binding, backing, and batting after Feb. 7 when a particular offer will be available at LQS. Oh, and 1 skein of yarn, to go with 1/2 skein leftover.

I think it would be more difficult for me, the longer it went on. I’d have to refrain from looking at emails from the stores, or I’d be too tempted to buy…. but that’s just me… ?

I’m planning to buy chart & floss for the stitch along. Does that count since it wasn’t planned until after New Year?

It’s kind of a special event so I say it doesn’t count. I knew all along that if there was something like a stitch along or I needed a gift, which is kinda how I justified the St. Patrick’s Day chart, I would do it. What I’m trying to avoid is the . . I have 10 minutes to kill. Let me see what’s new at the shops . . and ordering.
Since there are no real police . . except I have the Enforcement Officer . . you do whatever your happy with. We don’t want to miss out on anything really fun because of some crazy commitment we made when we weren’t thinking clearly, right?

When the urge to look online hits, look in your bins and tubs and closets instead. Do your shopping “closer to home!” Maybe do another “length of floss stitching” instead of looking online.
