Vince checked tracking and one of the “vintage” mixers should arrive Friday. The food grade grease arrived today, though I’m not sure I ordered enough. Vince decided it was a good day to take the mixer apart. I’ll admit, I’m a bit concerned and will feel much better after it’s put back together.
He started out working on the breakfast room table and I wasn’t real thrilled with that idea. He has a shop. He has a workbench. This seemed like the perfect thing to do in the shop . . not on my table! But, I kept fairly quiet and didn’t share my thoughts.
Then he got the lid off and decided he might ought to take it outside for cleaning the grease.
That picture makes me want to be sick. Vince said “Yours looks better than the one on the video.” I’m glad I didn’t see the one on the video.
I’ll be really glad when it’s put back together and running!
Vince said “When you see the other ones, you might would rather have one of those.” No! I’ve had this one since it was brand new. Why would I not want to keep it? He might have been thinking . . because it may never work again . . but he didn’t say that.

Oh my, that really does look gross! No wonder we just buy new ones. If I ever took mine apart, I would decide it was ruined and probably throw it out and buy a new one! No matter how much I liked the old one.

Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s one made by Hobart that can be purchased new these days.
Edit: I just looked and they are but they start at about $3,000 but the good news is . . they ship for free! 🙂

So sorry to hear this. Maybe he is correct and all it needs is the grease replaced.

That’s what he did today but something isn’t quite right. Maybe tomorrow he will work on it again. I’m not giving up hope yet.

Wow! I hope he can get it working well again! I had no idea there was such a thing as Hobart built KAs until you mentioned it. My husband bought a “heavy duty” KA stand mixer a number of years ago but I bet it wasn’t the Hobart one. I go to estate sales and would see old stand mixers and never thought about them. I think I probably should keep an eye out now…lol I don’t use the mixer much as I’d have to drag it into the kitchen from another room and I don’t bake much other than my sourdough and that is done by hand.

On the side, near the back, they will say something like “Built by Hobart for Kitchen Aid”.
I’m with you – last night I was sad about the possibility of losing my old mixer and then I thought . . so what if I don’t have a great mixer. I don’t use it that much any more. Most of my bread is also kneaded by hand except the whole wheat and I’ll use the Bosch for that. I will survive . . with or without my old mixer.

I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to face my mixer after seeing the old grease, but the new grease is fresh and white, and I appreciate my mixer enough to try to forget it. It is pretty disgusting to see!

It was terribly disgusting but Vince said some of the videos were worse.

I took mine to a Kitchen Aid repair center. Fixed like new.

Vince would much rather work on them himself. He has it back to working. Ordered one more part.
