This day has flown by and I’ve accomplished so very little . . I feel like we should get a do over!
Both of us are pack rats and our bedroom closet had become a scary place to go. I asked Vince this morning if he would help me for one hour! I knew one hour wasn’t going to get it back in good shape but an hour here and an an hour there might. Vince is worse than I am about throwing things away. I keep our over the counter type meds in plastic boxes. They’re about 14 x 14 and maybe 5″ tall and they’re all different colors and labeled and they’re stacked in a closet in the dressing area of our bathroom. There’s a box for aspirins, allergy, first aid, colds .. I think there are 6 of them. I go through them at the end of each year and throw out things that have been expired for a few years. I don’t throw out things that expired last year, for the most part.
Vince had brought tubs . . like more than would fit in the back of a pickup . . of that kind of stuff. He goes shopping and he has no idea what we have and he’ll buy three bottles of aspirins . . once a month. In the tubs of stuff he brought from Texas, that all got stacked in our closet, were aspirins and benadryl that expired in 2011. That’s at least 10 years past the expiration date! We have plenty more . . the new stuff is going to expire because we just don’t take a lot of that stuff. He didn’t want to throw anything out. We had a bit of a challenging hour but we made some small amount of progress.
Then I fixed breakfast. Dinner was going to be leftovers so just when I got ready to start stitching, Vince said “I think I’ll take the mixer apart.” I needed wine! I can’t stitch and drink wine. Seriously, I didn’t drink wine but I knew he was going to need me to bring him this, come look at that, help him find things so I didn’t start stitching. He took the mixer apart, cleaned everything out, added new grease, put it back together. NO! It was not right. It sounded worse than it did before and only had one speed. He took it apart again, found a few things that had not been put back quite right, put it all back together again and it still isn’t right. He said “Maybe one of the ones coming from ebay will work!” I’m not real happy with the way this project went but it’s one of those times when the best thing I can do is just forget about it.
By the time that was all said and done, I was picking up around my stitching chair. I had kitted a bunch of the projects I want to work on this year but there were a few that were missing one or two colors of floss. A chart may call for Gentle Arts Blue Spruce and I don’t have it but Weeks Onyx may be an almost perfect match so I went through those charts and dug through the floss and found acceptable substitutions for the missing floss. In some cases, there were two colors that were close to what the online image of the missing color was, or I had a DMC alternative so I got three of those projects ready to go.
So, it’s 8:30 p.m. and I’ve not taken one stitch. I will get in a few before bedtime.
