This day has flown by and I’ve accomplished so very little . . I feel like we should get a do over!
Both of us are pack rats and our bedroom closet had become a scary place to go. I asked Vince this morning if he would help me for one hour! I knew one hour wasn’t going to get it back in good shape but an hour here and an an hour there might. Vince is worse than I am about throwing things away. I keep our over the counter type meds in plastic boxes. They’re about 14 x 14 and maybe 5″ tall and they’re all different colors and labeled and they’re stacked in a closet in the dressing area of our bathroom. There’s a box for aspirins, allergy, first aid, colds .. I think there are 6 of them. I go through them at the end of each year and throw out things that have been expired for a few years. I don’t throw out things that expired last year, for the most part.
Vince had brought tubs . . like more than would fit in the back of a pickup . . of that kind of stuff. He goes shopping and he has no idea what we have and he’ll buy three bottles of aspirins . . once a month. In the tubs of stuff he brought from Texas, that all got stacked in our closet, were aspirins and benadryl that expired in 2011. That’s at least 10 years past the expiration date! We have plenty more . . the new stuff is going to expire because we just don’t take a lot of that stuff. He didn’t want to throw anything out. We had a bit of a challenging hour but we made some small amount of progress.
Then I fixed breakfast. Dinner was going to be leftovers so just when I got ready to start stitching, Vince said “I think I’ll take the mixer apart.” I needed wine! I can’t stitch and drink wine. Seriously, I didn’t drink wine but I knew he was going to need me to bring him this, come look at that, help him find things so I didn’t start stitching. He took the mixer apart, cleaned everything out, added new grease, put it back together. NO! It was not right. It sounded worse than it did before and only had one speed. He took it apart again, found a few things that had not been put back quite right, put it all back together again and it still isn’t right. He said “Maybe one of the ones coming from ebay will work!” I’m not real happy with the way this project went but it’s one of those times when the best thing I can do is just forget about it.
By the time that was all said and done, I was picking up around my stitching chair. I had kitted a bunch of the projects I want to work on this year but there were a few that were missing one or two colors of floss. A chart may call for Gentle Arts Blue Spruce and I don’t have it but Weeks Onyx may be an almost perfect match so I went through those charts and dug through the floss and found acceptable substitutions for the missing floss. In some cases, there were two colors that were close to what the online image of the missing color was, or I had a DMC alternative so I got three of those projects ready to go.
So, it’s 8:30 p.m. and I’ve not taken one stitch. I will get in a few before bedtime.

I am sorry he wasn’t able to fix your mixer, I know that was what you were hoping would happen. At least he tried, I would have tossed it because I am horrible about taking thing apart and not being able to get it back together. Hopefully one of the ebay ones will work.

Lately when my husband starts working on a project on the kitchen table, I say “I have some errands to run, I’ll see you later!” and out the door I go for at least 2 hours. Much better for my peace/piece of mind when it isn’t my project. (Otherwise I’d be giving him a piece of my mind several times at least.)

Having a favorite appliances taken apart is always unnerving. Also, seeing the mess isn’t enjoyable. Hopefully, it will get put together right and serve you for many more years! And as far as your stitching goes, I chose to make yesterday a stitchy day and ended up doing 1306 stitches, so I think I got some of your stitches done on my project. I’m doing the Cottage House Needleworks Snow Village and am working on part 3 (Skate and Sled Shop) of the 8 parts that go around the center of the project. It’s not my normal style, but still cute and with all of the snow we have outside, seems like the perfect thing to be stitching.

WOW! That is a lot of stitches! I love the project you’re working on.

Don’t get too impressed. That was seriously an all day stitching from about 7 am till 10 pm with a few breaks to do other things. I’ve never felt like I’m a speedy stitcher.

Sorry that he wasn’t able to get your mixer running and then to top it off you didn’t get to stitch! I find it interesting how we we packrats navigate letting things go. My husband has some very old Coleman sleeping bags that haven’t been used in 30-40 years but he doesn’t want to get rid of them. He has the newer type bags that compress down so it’s not like he wouldn’t have some and the newer ones take up less space. I don’t even know how many hiking backpacks he has and I can’t even remember the last time he used them. I think it represents a dream of “someday” so I won’t press him since he will have to figure out where it will all go when he organizes his man cave. But lets not talk about how many sewing machines (I’ve lost count) or how much fabric I have. 😀

That’s exactly why I try not to say anything about Vince’s “stuff” . . I know I’m worse. I justify it by saying “I use my stuff” but with all the quilting . . I don’t but still can’t part with it. I had wanted to sell the longarm before we moved and he wouldn’t and now, it’s been sitting downstairs for a year, not even put together.
My feeling is that unless something in infringing on the other’s space, we just keep quiet.

Holy smokes I’d be talking to him about how much money has been wasted with this shopping habit. I don’t have to pinch every single penny but oh my I detest waste.
I’m sorry you’re having to go through this with him. I’m with you on 2021 remedies being safe another year!
