Last night Vince and I were talking. He hasn’t left the house in two days – didn’t go out Wednesday or Thursday. That’s unusual for Vince. I said to him “If you manage to stay home tomorrow, you will have been home for 3 full days without leaving the house.” He thought about it a minute and he said “When you were here by yourself, how many days in a row did you stay home without leaving?” Oh, my . . did he think I was going to say three days? I said “Probably six week or more!”
When I first got here, Walmart was not delivering groceries out here so I’d get a 7 – 8 a.m. pickup time every two to three weeks and I’d run to Walmart and pick up my groceries curbside, never get out of the car, and run back home. Once Walmart started delivering out here, I never left unless it was to go get Addie and for most of the time Vince wasn’t here, I didn’t get her much.
I was concerned about getting sick and not being able to take care of Rita and Boots so I figured the best thing to do was stay home.
I’m not sure he believes me. He said “You didn’t go out to eat?” NO! How does he not know how much I dislike going out to eat? I did do the whatever you call it where they deliver food to your house . . I did that twice – one night when Addie was here and one day when I was starving for fried fish. He said “You didn’t go to Hobby Lobby?” NO! I ordered a few things from Hobby Lobby online but if I needed anything, I just ordered it.
Then I asked him . . Could you stay home for six weeks? He said he could not because there were things he needs. I asked what. He looked around the room and said “light bulbs”. Really? Then he said “I kinda like to pick out my own groceries.” I wanted to say “Why, they rot in the fridge!” but I figured that wasn’t a good thing to say. I told him “I don’t mind someone else picking out my groceries and we seem to be doing fine with what someone else picks out.
I just cannot figure out how why he loves going out so much but I know he cannot figure out why I love not going out.
I would almost be willing to bet that today he finds a reason to go to town. Weekends are more crowded so we generally try to not go out on weekends so he’s either going to go at least five days without going out or he’s going to go to town today. We’ll see.

Maybe Vince could find the local spit and whittle club (coffee drinkers) at the local DQ or Whataburger or some diner where the men gather to talk (gossip).

There is a group of guys that get together in the neighborhood once a week. Vince was going to that but hasn’t gone lately. He’s not very social. I think it’s just the shopping he loves. My dad goes somewhere almost every day but he loves the social aspect. For years, the old guys hang out at the barber shop and dad loves that.

I’m going to bet that Vince goes to town today. 🙂

The weather may keep him home. Not sure if it’s getting above freezing and some of the back roads may still have slick spots. He usually goes early if he’s going and so far, he hasn’t acted like he’s going. Maybe he’s proving to me that he can stay home for 3 full days.

You’re a better wife than I. I would DARE him to stay home for 7 days-not even start a vehicle.

Everyone is so different. Vince might be a little like me – I crave human contact after a few days of staying home. I just feel the need to see a human face and talk to someone in person. I’m OK with being home for about 3-4 days before I get a little stir crazy.

I can stay home for two or three weeks. The only problem is that there is no grocery delivery or mail delivery where I live. I have to go to town to get the mail and my groceries. Otherwise, I could stay home for a long time!

Mail and groceries are very good reasons to leave the house! 🙂

Oh Judy! I am you, and my husband is Vince! I stay at home, he works all week. You would think he’d want to stay home on weekends, but no. He wants to `go do something `. Fine, what do you want to do? I don’t know, I just want to do something. Drives me crazy!!

I am so like you, I would be happy to stay home and never go shopping. I am lucky my nephew picks up my groceries for me and does most of my errands. I am happy to work from home and avoid people. I do have to go out occasionally but it is rarely something I want to do, more of something I have to do. The rest of my family are social butterflies and love going out for any and every reason. I will say I had to gou out this week to get some blood work done, and I went to Starbucks, which was nice. But where I used to go a couple times a week, I had mine and I am ok not going back for a while.

Your post and the comments got me to thinking. I haven’t left the house since last Sunday. I was going to get groceries today but it’s cold and windy so I didn’t. The weather has been like that all week, actually even worse. Wind chills of -20 to -30 don’t encourage me to go out.

I would like to have stayed home today because of the temps. One of my sisters needed to leave her car here and I take her to the airport. She flew out to go to the Dominican Republic with a Medical Mission group. She has gone several years, of course, not last year, and was very excited to go back this year. I guess getting out in this cold was the least I could do! It’s windy here too, Linda!

If it was not for the pharmacy and picking up groceries, I think I could stay home all the time. Except for Tuesdays and I really need that!! I think I have told you before, you ladies saved my life!!
