Yesterday in this post I mentioned some of y’all doing a stitch along with me using one length of thread each day. If you want to do a different redwork project, or any single color or basically, I guess any monochromatic scheme project, feel free to join us.
The chart I’m using is Elle Brode en Lettres Carmen by Reflets de Soie. My chart is from the online magazine, The Gift of Stitching but the chart is also available at Colorado Cross Stitcher.
A reader asked how many bobbins of Vikki Clayton silks I’m planning to use. Here’s what I sent her in response:
My chart says we need this much:
20 metres – 22 yards – darker. I used 1149
15 metres – 16 yards – lighter. I’m using 1143
According to my calculations, which are always wrong, I will need 2.53 bobbins of 1149 and 1.84 bobbins of 1143.
Here’s the requirements from the chart I have:
Don’t ask me about that silk ribbon. My inclination is to not use it but I’ll wait and see after I get started. I see where probably the lace is through a row of stitching and I’m guessing there’s lace used to stitch some of the flowers but I haven’t gone that far to figure it all out yet.
My questions for y’all:
- Do you use Instagram? If so, do you want a hashtag for this project? Even those not participating could go see what we’re doing and that would be so much easier than trying to link here to various posts.
- When do we start? I think it’s up to everyone. Charts and floss have to arrive so I’m thinking a good start might be January 15 but it really doesn’t matter because there’s no deadline. Some of us are faster than others. You can bet I’ll be the last one to finish. Some of us may use 18″ floss, some may use 20″ or 22″ floss. I will say that Vikki Clayton and Colorado Cross Stitcher are the fastest shippers I’ve ever dealt with. Colorado Cross Stitcher is in . . Colorado . . who would have guessed? Vikki Clayton is in Pennsylvania I think. I’m in Missouri and if I place an order before noon on a day either of them are open, I’ll have it usually on the third day afterwards. I must say – the mail is getting things delivered in a flash these days.
I’ll wait to hear from a few participants before I post a start date and a hashtag, if we’re going to use Instagram. I use use some but not a lot but it is pretty useful for something like this.

The most expensive thing you put in a project is your time.

I went and downloaded all the necessary pages for the chart and then was dismayed to see it say that this project is not suitable for Aida. Having looked through the chart I just can’t figure that one out. Do you have an idea why that would be? I wondered if maybe the silk thread wouldn’t work on the cloth so if that’s the case I can use DMC but it’s a mystery to me why it’s not suitable. I’d hate to get everything started and found out later into the project what that problem could be.

I’ve seen people use silk on Aida but there’s DMC or overdyes that will work.
I’m guessing it’s eyelets or some fancy stitch that is difficult on Aida but you could always make plain “x”s. I’ve seen people do that all the time just because the don’t want to mess with the specialty stitches.
Somewhere on the chart, there’s probably a sentence that talks about stitches that are used. I’ll look at those tomorrow and post a note, ok?

Thank you!! I did look over things quickly but didn’t read everything. I will look again today.

I would like to do it, but I don’t use Instagram…

It isn’t necessary to use Instagram. I just figured if enough people use it, we could do it but, even if we do and you don’t, that’s ok.

You are tempting me with this. I already ‘have the magazine so all I would need is linen and floss.

Get it all and get ready to join us! 🙂

I would join, but do a different project. I use Instagram and think it would be fun to see others progress. Now to figure out what project to do. For the hash tag how about #OneStrand2022
