The “No Buy Year” has begun. Denise and I kept chatting about how we would put things in our carts at different online shops and then delete it all. I kept feeling like I HAD to order something. At one point I had a lot of floss and a couple of charts in my cart at 123 Stitch. Then I took out all the charts, then I deleted all the floss.
But, I was talking to another friend and she mentioned something about a stitching shop near her. I visited their site and they had the chart for A Cup of Good Cheer. I had been looking for that because that’s probably what I want to stitch for Addie’s Christmas decoration in 2022 and hadn’t been able to find it so I grabbed that, along with a couple of other small Christmas charts.
This week when Addie and I were hanging frames downstairs, we opened a box from Hobby Lobby that had been in the garage unopened for a long time. I thought it might be frames but it had a huge dough bowl (not authentic, of course). Addie asked if that was for little pillows and I told her yes. She said “How are you EVER going to stitch enough pillows to fill that?” I wanted to say “If I stop stitching them for you, maybe I can keep some for me!” I told her “Never underestimate what this Granny can do!” <G> Now, the pressure is on to fill that bowl will pillows. I was thinking maybe I’d stitch five or six for Christmas and let her pick one. I can always re-stitch it for me if I want it badly enough.
I’m really not on a “No Buy” because if I really need floss, or trim or even linen, which I don’t think will happen, I can get it. What I can’t do is sit here, shopping online just to kill time, or buy charts I know I’ll never stitch.
The waiting for the new year has kinda been torture. I’m glad it’s finally here and I can start on my planned projects, work on my WIPGO projects, start writing in my new journal and the new Book of Days.
Last night I started Elizabeth Eyles and got a bit of stitching done. I’ll do a separate post on that so I can link to it without all this other “clutter”.

Good on you! Even though I’m not on a no buying pledge for the year I did decide to try and scale back. I saw Denise’s Winter Manor and I almost bought it before and this time I went to 123Stitch and put it in my cart and almost bought it again but decided to just keep a wish list (something I forgot I could do). I think this way I can reward myself with something if it’s warranted and I can revisit it to see if I still want it months from now. But I have plenty to keep myself busy and I have all those Owl Forest charts to choose from too! I received the Red Cardinal chart and floss in the mail yesterday…yay!! Funny but my mail carrier and I had a long discussion about cross stitch and quilting…lol When I opened the package I notice a QR code on the package and it’s a link to the digital pattern. I don’t know if that is free. I asked on the Facebook page and will need to check that out later. But…excited to work on Flea Market Flowers today!

I think I did see a response that it is free and that is an amazing benefit.

I am glad the new year started. I did buy som floss and a couple of pieces of fabric to make some patterns I received for Christmas, but did it all before today. I think starting the 12 projects yesterday helped because I know I have things to finish. The hardest part was I didn’t want to stop some of them. My goal tomorrow is to plan my January stitching schedule. It won’t be totally detailed, but I want to allow time on my WIPGO projects as well as a few others. I like the planning part, even if I don’t follow through 100%.
