There’s a gray cat that hangs around Vince’s shop. He’s out there almost every time Vince goes out there but the can runs. He can get under the shop right there at that end and that’s where he goes. I’m going to call it a “he” though I have no idea whether it’s a male or female.
Sorry the pictures are all taken from the house window. I can’t get close to it. He seems to be a little more comfortable around Vince, probably because he sees Vince more. That picture makes it look like a kitten but it’s a full size cat.
I told Vince . . since he’s here we might as well put food and water out for it but I wanted to put just a small amount of food so we’re not feeding every cat in the neighborhood.
I told Vince “I’ll get you some cat food.” Vince said “I didn’t know we had cat food here.” Hmm . . do we have a cat that lives in the house??” He said “I meant . . I don’t want to give him the good stuff.” Then why did he say “I didn’t know we had cat food here?” I have no idea but I got a bit of food and Vince took it out there. He put some water over on the concrete pad. Vince was able to walk within 6′ of the cat before it ran back under the shop.
Vince walked away and it was about 10 minutes before the cat came out, grabbed a bite of food and ran back under the shop. Later he came out, stayed out and ate.
We’ll see what happens. Hopefully he belongs to someone else and though I don’t mind if he hangs around, especially near the shop where there are likely to be mice, I hope it’s been spayed or neutered. Honestly, with a busy road nearby, and a neighborhood full of houses, it doesn’t seem terribly responsible to me for someone to have a pet that runs loose but that’s probably just me.
No matter, no pet should be hungry or thirsty and this one has been around for weeks. I can’t say it never goes home but there’s rarely a day I don’t see it out by the shop.

I think Vince is going to have a shop cat! It’s kind of you to think about it’s welfare. I home it’s not a pregnant female looking for a place to have her kittens!

Well, if it does, then we’ll deal with that and then we will get it spayed. I figure if she has kittens at my house, it’s my right to stop that from happening again.

Absolutely agree with you! We can’t have cats any more because my husband is allergic. Growing up we had a stray that had kittens and I’ll never forget how crazy and fun they were.

Since we live in the country, we have lots of problems with mice. We currently have 3 cats that belong to us. Two are house cats who sometimes go outside, but not every day, especially in the winter. The third is a “garage” cat. She lives in the garage, partly because she does not get along with the indoor cats, and partly because she likes being outside more than inside. She has a heated house on a high shelf in the garage, so she is cozy and warm when she wants it. She loves hanging out with my husband and follows him around like a dog, LOL! There is a cat door so that she can come in and out of the garage whenever she wants. However, there are other cats that come and go also. My husband gets frustrated with “feeding every stray cat in the neighborhood”. Most of them are feral and very skittish. Usually I only see a specific cat 1 or 2 times and then they are gone. It doesn’t bother me that they stop by for a snack. They are also helping to patrol the rodent population around here so that’s all for the good!

Did you know you can get an electronic cat door and put the collar on your cat and the door will only open for her? We thought about doing that with Cat because we also were feeding lots of cats but I was afraid (1) that we would die trying to get the collar on her and (2) with her living out in the woods, the collar might get caught on something and she would become dinner for a coyote.
