My New Year’s Day start is Elizabeth Eyles, 1799 by The Scarlet Letter.
I had it kitted but have two pieces of fabric in there because I couldn’t decide. Now, it’s almost time to start so I must make a decision. There always seems to be at least one floss that isn’t going to show up. I understand these are reproduction samplers and “back in the day” the color choices were limited. Today, they aren’t! I love keeping the stitching as close as I can to the original but, I do want all the stitching to show up.
The above picture shows the floss on Picture This Plus Bramble. Those light three bobbins on the front right concern me. The lightest one, as far as I can tell, is always surrounded by darker color. The lighter light peachy color is almost always surrounded by other colors.
The above photo shows the floss on Fox & Rabbit’s Paperbark. The same three colors are don’t show up any better on this fabric.
The dark bobbin in front and the light one on the left are called for. The medium on the right is what I’ll use when the light color is called for but doesn’t have other colors surrounding it.
Now that all that is decided, I’m ready to start stitching but I’ll wait til at least late tomorrow night to start stitching on this one.

I just ordered two antique patterns. The floss was nearly $5 a skein so I decided to see if it’s available somewhere else. Where did you buy these bobbins of fancy floss? You are so right! When the pattern was originally stitched, there wasn’t the choice of colors. Would you please post or email me where you purchased the bobbins? Thank you!

I’m using Vikki Clayton Silks. I’ve been using them on several projects and absolutely love them – https://www.hand-dyedfibers.com/

Thank you for the link.

Those silks are so pretty. I think I’m going to start my planned NYE start tonight – maybe – unless I decide to work on one of the many other choices but the pull is strong to start on Winter Rose Manor.

Winter Rose Manor is so pretty. You’re going to make me want to sneak it into my projects! I’m loving New Year Sampler so much, I hate to put it down so I’m at least going to work on it tonight. Addie is back home so tonight will be the first night I’ve had uninterrupted time to work on it.

You should be able to get a lot done on that with a quiet evening to work on it. Looking forward to seeing your progress. My floss can’t get here fast enough so I can get back to working on that one.

I still need to figure out my fabric too! I’m so conflicted on what to use and it’s the part of the process I don’t much enjoy! I saw someone was using Cappuccino from Fiber on a Whim and I have that on hand so I’ll definitely be looking at that.
I’m doing 12 By 12 tomorrow so I likely won’t make a decision until Saturday! I’m using the HDF silks too and might make a substitution or 2 as well.
The Bramble looks like the colors may show up better than on the Paperbark. Both are really pretty and it looks like there is some ghosting colors in the sampler photo too.

I went back and looked in my stash and I actually have Paperbark and it looks really good. Did you decide what you’re going to use?
I also went and pulled my DMC chart and the HDF colors look really really close. What is different isn’t material so I’m very happy with the HDF colors. I did go and order the same 1405 you show below and of course, had to order a couple of extra things. So…thank you! 🙂
