The tree looks bare with no presents underneath it. I’ll leave it up for a few days and then take it down and get all the decorations put away, at least before New Year’s. It’s fun getting it all out but I’m always happy to put it away.
I never cook as much for Christmas as I do for Thanksgiving so that’s nice. I made two chuck roasts in the sous vide and we didn’t even cut one of them so Chad and Nicole took home half a chuck roast and we’ll have enough for a couple of meals.
Chad brought something similar to Beef Wellington but it’s made with venison tenderloin and he used morel mushrooms in it.
I should have taken a picture after we cut it – so pretty and it looked “fancy”. I was quite tasty but Vince won’t eat venison. Chad left the leftovers with me because Addie loves it and she stayed here with us for the next week.
Chad and Nicole left about 4:30. When they left, Vince asked if I was sad. No .. Addie is still here but I’m not sad when we part ways because they’re only 45 minutes away and I know I could see them again any time. I was always sad and there were a few tears when they left our house in Texas or I left their house in MO. Those days are over and nope, not sad at all – very happy!
Hopefully I can get my 500 stitches in before I fall asleep but I surely wouldn’t bet on it!

I thought Vince hunted deer on your Texas property?? But I’m with Vince–no venison for me!

He did but he would hardly eat it unless I could disguise it as something else.

When we were very young, my parents would not put the Christmas tree up until after we were in bed. So they had to decorate the tree, get all the presents out, and then try to get some sleep. It was a lot of work for Mom & Dad, but it was magical coming down the stairs on Christmas day. And since Mom was from Latvia (Russian Orthodox), we kept the tree up until after January 6th – the Feast of the Magi.
And tomorrow is the “first day of Christmas” and January 6th is then the 12th Day of Christmas.
I ended up with a visual migraine just as I was going to start cooking, so the lamb and roasted veggies are in the oven at 7:30pm. I’ll do the bread pudding tomorrow – I’ll make it with eggnog, brioche bread, dried cherries, and some fresh Oklahoma pecans. Should be wonderful for breakfast.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Sorry about the headache. Love hearing about different traditions. I cannot imagine putting the tree up and decorating it AFTER the kids are in bed. Did you ever sneak out and take a peak without them knowing?
Your bread pudding sounds amazing. Now I want bread pudding! 🙂 Enjoy!

Today is the first day of Christmas, January 6, Epiphany, is the last day of Christmas. So really you can leave them up until then. The is the Episcopalian way.

I could . . but I won’t. I’ll be happy to get the house back to normal. After Christmas, the whole time the decorations are out, it’s kinda like getting them put away is hanging over my head.

I did not put out as many this year as I have in the past. I know I am the one that will have to put them up afterward!! I am going to take the stockings down though. Too much stuff on my mantle! LOL
