There’s so much more to life than any of our hobbies and I allow myself to get so caught up that I all I want to do is whatever the current hobby is. I was that way with quilting, with knitting and now with cross stitching.
I sat down and started stitching a dozen or more times today and had interruptions after just a few stitches. Addie wanted to make her peppermint bark so I stopped and supervised her making the chocolate layer. While it cooled, I cross stitched, with her asking me every two minutes if I thought it was cool yet. Finally, I set the timer and said “When this goes off, it should be cool”. Then we made the white layer. Then I started stitching and she said “Let’s play Uno!” NO! Just let me stitch. I didn’t say that but then I remembered that spending time with her is what matters more to me than cross stitching. It won’t be long before she’ll be too busy to spend time with me and I can sit and cross stitch and wish for time with her.
Vince had ordered new shower heads with the hand held gizmo for our showers. He put one on in our bathroom and neither of us like it. The hose part is hard and has a mind of its own so he took it off and wanted us to look online at others. I thinki we should wait til after Christmas and got to Home Depot or Lowes and look at them there and decide which one we want instead of trying to buy online. He kept saying “Come look at this one!” I wanted to say “Just get what you want!” but I knew it was in my best interest to at least look at the one he was thinking about getting. We’re sending back the ones he ordered and just getting one to see if we like it.
It’s so many little things – none of which take up a lot of time but all together, they take up the whole day. That’s life!
I am glad I made the fricot last night for today. Now all I have to do is heat up a can of peas for Addie. I can’t believe she loves those! I’ll make a salad for us and dinner will be served. Surely then Addie and Vince can find things to keep them busy so I can get just a bit of stitching done.

Drop the stitching and do as much as possible with those you love, you will not look back later and say man I should have spent my time stitching rather than being with my family. As someone who has lost a lot of my family I would give up all hobbies just to bring them back for Christmas.
Sometimes in the moment we forgets those moments don’t last. Based on what you’ve written, I think you have your priorities set correctly, So enjoy this wild crazy season, it will be over before you know it.

She enjoys some alone time and that’s when I’m stitching but as soon as I think she’s occupied for a few minutes and start stitching, she’s back with questions or wanting to do something. She has her diamond painting going on in her room and she has games she plays on the computer, as well as a couple of drawing programs and she loves playing with Boots or sitting and brushing him. So, there’s time to stitch and spend time with her.

What recipe do you like for peppermint bark?

It was one that came in something Addie gets in the mail. I had to improvise a little because it said two large bars of chocolate and two large bars of white chocolate. I used almond bark (one package of each) and am not sure if that’s what they meant. It also said 25 small candy canes and we were lucky to find larger candy canes so I used 12 of those.
It was super simple. I’ll type up the recipe with pictures and post it tomorrow.
