Chad and Nicole came to town today. We had told Chad we would take him out for his birthday, which was last week, so we went and ate Mexican. I have everything here that I needed for all that I want to make for the holidays but Addie brought a couple of recipes with her. There’s a King Saver not far from the restaurant where we ate so we ran in there and got the things I need for Addie’s recipes.
Chad, Nicole and Addie went on to a flea market. Vince and I stayed home. Then they brought Addie by here and stayed a while then Chad and Nicole went home for a week with just the two of them.
Before they got here, Chad and Nicole went to Joplin to do a bit of shopping. They said it was a total zoo. Nicole had wanted to get something from T. J. Max but they said trying to even get into the mall was too much trouble so they didn’t.
I’ve hardly accomplished anything today. I got the fricot cooking. I got the crock pot out but decided not to use it. Simmered the fricot (without the potatoes) almost all day on top of the stove. It’s cooling now and I’ll put it in the fridge. Tomorrow I’ll had the potatoes and cook it a bit more and it will be our dinner, along with green peas, which Addie loves, and a salad.
Addie and I will make peppermint bark tomorrow. I’ll probably mix up a batch of sugar cookie dough tomorrow and we’ll roll those out, bake and decorate them on Monday. I may make peppernuts too. Vince asked for gingerbread today but I don’t know if that’s going to happen. Maybe it’s selfish but at Christmas, I like to make the things I like and it isn’t gingerbread and it isn’t apple pie, which he also asked for. We’ll see . . maybe tomorrow I’ll just make both and get it done.

Yumm – a friend gave me a bag of chocolate covered peppernuts and those cookies are so darn good. So far I have been good only having two a day – but I’m only on day 2 and there’s still many hours of stitching this evening I need to have energy for……

The peppernut cookies made with anise are they waffle-like cookies made with a waffle-like iron? I’d be interested in a recipe if you have one.

I think those are pizzelles.
