Yesterday I was putting away some linen and came across this piece – the one on the right.
The color is Silver Fox by Fiber on a Whim. I thought it was going to be more gray but it’s kinda greenish blue mixed with gray. The piece on the left is Sampler Khaky, also part of XJu’s linen club. There’s a project I want to stitch on gray and that’s probably why I had it out.
As I was looking at it, trying to decide what/when I might use it, I remembered Jane Thwaites 1828. I had purchased it in May, printed it and I guess left it in the printer because Vince found it in his office a day or so ago and gave it to me.
I retrieved Jane and decided that might be a good project for the Silver Fox linen.
The two center colors .. I’m still not sure about those. I only need 9 colors so it’s either/or for those two in the center but I could still end up using something else. I think
This is the XJu linen with some of the same colors. Again, the one in the middle is a called for color but I would switch it out.
I like the greenish gray because it’s different and I have so much tan, beige and off white linen.
Of the nine called for colors, I have six. It’s very easy to find substitute colors when the DMC colors are given also.
I pull out the DMC color book, find the called for color, then search for something similar. In this case, the called for color is DMC 3831. I don’t have that (except in my main kit and I’m not pulling that unless it’s an emergency and since this isn’t an emergency, I’ll use something I have) and Wild Berries looks like a perfect substitute.
For now, I put both pieces of fabric, the chart and the floss, including all the options that may work for either fabric, in a project bag and it’s going into my 2023 Possibilities box.

I agree, both look good, but the blue one really pops to me. So how many projects do you have kitted now? I have 29, but one of those doesn’t have the fabric in it yet, because I plan to use left over from another project. I pulled out the 12 I plan on starting on New Years Eve and have started cutting and sewing the edges, so that they are ready to go. I even used my label maker to put the project name on the outside of the bag so that I can find things easier. I have one more that I swear I kitted but can’t find, another case of I would lose my head if it wasn’t attached. I’m thinking it is stuffed inside one of the other bags, but I won’t push to find it until this weekend. Most of mine are smalls, so I’m hoping that not only do I start them, I finish them next year.

Wow kitting out for 2023!!! I’ve just got my 12 ready , all I have do is cut to size and overlock the edges. Oh and put the correct needles with each. I found a bag of gold plated needles from 22 – 28. Yay, I am happy bunny. Been notified my SAL is on its way The Nutcracker Village. Managed to get a splodgy linen coloured Onasburg fabric, as the suggested fabric. Feels lovely and soft. Looking forward to start stitching on New Years Day.

Those are some lovely linens. Yesterday while at the LNS I bought a small piece of 32 count to work on the Etched Cardinal at some point to test it out. A woman heard me say it was my first time using linen and she said I’d never go back….lol. There are really some lovely linens out there and they certainly have a wonderful hand. But, I will continue to use what I have kitted up for now. The store had a lot of fabric, even in lower counts but I found it interesting that they had the smallest stock in the 18ct that I use. Perhaps people buy it out. I had to go to 16 for the two Owl Forest projects I decided on, Apples of Youth and Hydrangea. I might order some other fabric online if I think I see something better as I have some time before my planned start date on those.

Good for you (using what you have). It seems like the higher counts are always the first ones to go in linen too.
