First and foremost, I did receive a response from the designer of “the chart”. She was super nice. She said she designed to be so as not to be symmetrical and to have some of the things in it that I was questioning. I’m not going to question that because her designs seem amazing and I love them all but . . I am still changing the things that bother me being off center. She did thank me for letting her know about the errors in the borders.
We had an appointment in town early this morning to get new wills done but the attorney said our Texas wills should be fine. I didn’t have them because . . well, I haven’t found them. I’m thinking they’re in the safety deposit box. Chad and Nicole have copies too so I’m not real concerned but I’ll find them, drop them off and let him be sure they’re good in Missouri. They do things a bit differently in Missouri. We can have a “TOD” which is “transfer on death” on the titles to our vehicles so when we both pass, our vehicles will automatically go to whomever we have designed on the title – like anyone will want those! We knew that from when we lived here before.
What we didn’t know is that they have something similar for the real estate – We can have a form drawn up and filed at the courthouse so that when both of us are gone, the house can be sold by Chad and Vince’s daughter and they’ll split the net sales price. I asked . . if one of us dies first, which more than likely will happen, can the other sell the house without requiring signatures from the two kiddos and yes, they only have an interest in the house once both of us are gone. That way, there’s no probate proceedings because real estate and cars will be handled that way. The investment accounts are already set up as to what to do with the money when we’re gone so it seems like estate transfers are very easily resolved in Missouri without a legal probate proceeding.
From there we went to Walmart. Vince needed some parts for something. My doctor had told me to wait three weeks after having been exposed to Covid before getting the booster. I could have gotten it this past Monday but didn’t want to feel bad while preparing for the Thanksgiving feast so . . got that done today. My vaccines are Moderna and I felt pretty bad after the second one but the booster is a smaller dose so I’m hoping I don’t feel bad. I can alway sleep no matter how bad I feel so . . that wouldn’t be so bad. Last night I was up til 1 a.m. The ceiling fan, which HAS to go, started making noise at 4 a.m. and I never went back to sleep so I’m a little tired today. I think when the electrician comes to run power to the pergola, we’ll get him to change the fan in our room. It’s a really tall ceiling and Vince doesn’t need to be doing that.
When we got in the car to leave Walmart, there was a note on my phone that someone had been to the front door at home so I looked and there were a couple of packages so we came home to retrieve those in case porch pirates are in the neighborhood. Vince had already said he wanted to go eat Mexican but I figured after driving home, he would be happy to stay home but nope, he had his heart set on Mexican so we went to Carthage. We usually go about 1:30 and it isn’t crowded. We got there about 12:15 and it was SO crowded. There were no parking places. I didn’t want to go into a crowded place so we went to the courthouse just a few blocks away and Vince ran in to pay our property taxes. Then he went to the tax assessor’s office to tell them we had added the shop and pergola so those can be added to our value. After all . . who doesn’t want to pay more taxes? I’m telling you . . Vince may not be perfect but he is honest to a fault. We went back to the Mexican restaurant and the place had kinda cleared out so we ate there.
I got a notice in the mail that I had to report for jury duty . . in Texas! What? I called them to tell them I no longer live there. They were nice. Everyone we’ve dealt with today was nice.
Vince has gone down to visit with his friend down the road. The other day Vince was out planting trees. I went out with Rita and didn’t see him anywhere, then noticed him at the house across the street visiting. He’s so much more social here than he was in Texas. Maybe it’s just having people close by or maybe he relates more to the people here. I have no idea but it’s kinda funny seeing Vince out visiting.

The idiot from South Africa who was found to have a positive PCR landed here went into London to sightsee and back on the plane back to South Africa! ! Spreads it around and leaves. Putting all those on the plane at risk. With an outbreak in London.
Putting air travel anywhere at risk.
As from tomorrow they want people to wear masks in shops etc and on public transport. Never should of stopped wearing them. Oops sorry I will get off my soap box.

It’s pretty crazy, huh ? Hope they can get it all knocked down without having to shut down the whole world again.

We discovered when we moved from Oregon to Washington that our wills were worthless. Had to get new ones. We then discovered that if one of us passes first the house still goes thru probate but the survivor can defer it if the one who passed filled out the proper form added to the will. No transfer of title for anything. Very different than Oregon were if both were on the title of a car then it went to the survivor. Trusts even work differently. My mom had avoided probate in Oregon by putting property in a trust. That is not possible in Washington. I m thinking we need to fine a friendlier state to die in.

Every state is different. I had never heard of not needing a new will when we changed states but apparently not here.

.. I hope the designer puts a note on her website that there are intentional “misses” in the design. I can understand the idea of making a sampler to have a glitch or two, after all, no one is perfect. However, I think the chart should mimic the sample. So, I agree with your plan of modifying the chart to make it pleasing to you.
About the jury call – does TX delete y’all from the voter rolls? You may need to check to make sure you and Vince were removed. When my parents died, it was easy in the small city to get them off the rolls – I just had to call and tell them that they passed. They didn’t require a certificate since they knew them. When my aunt passed in Florida, she was already removed from the voter rolls when I called. The county read the obits! But, in OKC, I kept getting the voter cards for the previous owners. The election board would not take my word that the owners moved to TX and were not living in my house. I checked the voter sign-in sheets until I saw that they were removed.
On the will part – I was with some friends and they actually asked me if I had a will and plans. They have family in OK, but they realized that they did not have contact info for my sister if something happened to me. I told them that I was working on the “I’m dead, now what?” book – yes that is a real book to work you through the process. They laughed and told me to get moving on finalizing the details. When you start getting older, it gets more important to have written down!

We’ve always contacted the Registrar of Voters when we leave an area. The Texas jury pool info comes from the Texas Secretary of State in Texas and is updated once a year – in January. We were offically residents of Texas til March of this year but the jury names there don’t seem to come from current voter rolls
I do have the Now I’m Dead book and have it mostly filled out. Actually, I typed it all up so as not to write in the book and Chad has a copy of mine.

We wrote individual trusts back in 2000. We saw our attorney socially, actually at our granddaughter’s wedding. I asked if perhaps we should come in to review, then asked if we would now get a family discount! He thought we ought to come see him to review! I made the appointment for March 5,2020. March 2, husband went into hospital; then covid hit. The next time I went to his office was to finalize things following husband’s death. Oh, the things I did not know! A number of things had to be done this time that were not previously. I wrote a new trust and I still have one paper that I am not certain has gotten to where it is supposed to be. I’ve closed/consolidated some accounts. I think the only thing I’ve done is make it easier for the boys when that time comes! There are still plenty of things to take care of, for instance, passwords, individual tangibles if I care who some jewelry, etc. goes to. Why passwords when a person is supposed to change every other time one turns around?!!
