Normally Vince and I haven’t given each other gifts but we were always home alone on Christmas and anything we wanted, we just bought. Well, we didn’t buy EVERYTHING we wanted but if there was something one of us really wanted, chances are . . we would get it when we wanted it.
This year I was so happy to find that fire pit I thought he would like but then it was so big and bulky that I just gave it to him when it arrived. He got the shop, the pergola, a new lawn mower, ordered himself a new Chromebook. Fed Ex just brought four or five Snow Joe boxes that have tools in them. With Addie going to be here on Christmas, I feel like we need gifts to open from each other. I told Vince this morning . . the next 10 boxes that come from Amazon, I’m wrapping for you and putting under the tree. So far, it looks like he’s getting ink pens, light bulbs, shower heads, and a Ham radio.
Vince will go to Walmart and buy shirts for $2 that look like a shirt that cost $2. I think he has two decent shirts that he wears if we go somewhere and “decent” is kinda generous. I ordered him some nicer shirts but I am about 100% sure he will send them back because I paid more than $10 each for them. That man!
Brenda Gantt has been talking about Amish Farm Soap so I ordered some of that and when I was on the web page, I saw that they had a bar of man soap with grit for scrubbing hands so I ordered both Chad and Vince a bar of that.
Any thoughts as to what else I can get for Vince? I would love to come up with something that he loves and uses all the time.
It’s kinda the same way with Chad. Anything he wants, he buys. He’s so opposed to “clutter” and if it isn’t something he uses 10 times a day . . it’s clutter. I hate giving money or gift cards – that seems like I didn’t have time or care enough to shop but I suppose it’s better than buying something he doesn’t want.
Nicole is easy to buy for. She like the same things I like for the most part.
Addie has too much. I’ve tried to go with educational things and clothing. I did get her a couple of gift cards because she got the shopping gene from both her parents. I didn’t even buy her an Advent Calendar this year. One year I gathered up little gifts I thought she would like, wrapped them all and put a number on them and I think she felt slighted because she didn’t have the big box with numbers on each door. She’s had Harry Potter, Barbie, Legos and I am quite sure she doesn’t know where a single piece of that stuff is now so I told her already that I hadn’t gotten her an Advent Calendar because really, all I saw locally was Barbie and she most seems like she’s not playing with her dolls much.

I like giving and receiving gift cards! I don’t think it shows a lack of caring. It’s better than buying something they don’t want and they have to go return it or exchange it. I’m going to go check out that soap you mentioned!

It was less expensive here than at Amazon when I ordered it. I didn’t check prices just now.

My son found a fishing advent calendar at Walmart. He got it for his dad and it looks to have some cool things in it.

I have given grandkids a subscription to Taste of Home magazine ( he’s 10 and loves to cook) kid size aprons I embroidered their names on and gift certificates for the local ice cream shop. Mimi takes them and we both get ice cream. Gift cards to the local bookstore and an art cafe where you go to do a project and they have supplies. My daughter gives her nieces and nephews a “ golden ticket “ and they spend the day with her doing whatever they choose. They love it. She’s also given the family a cabin she rented on a lake for 2 nights. I love gifts you can consume, not more stuff. There’s a place in Florida that offers “ Cast and blast “ fishing and hunting excursions. The name cracks me up and I keep thinking I’ll do it for my grown sons. https://www.castandblastokeechobee.com/specials

Think about food items, maybe some type of game or specialty meat that they would enjoy but wouldn’t treat themselves too. I’ve ordered reindeer, bison, boar – things like that. A craft beer, wine, teas or even food from foreign countries. All of these types of things can’t be returned, so they may as well have fun trying them out.

I’ve seen a lot of tv ads recently for Little Passport. You get a box a month focused on a different country with art projects, books to read etc.

I have 13 grandchildren who do not live close enough to me that I know what they have already or what they would like. Several years ago I opened a savings account for each of them and for each Christmas, Birthday or any special occasion, I deposit money and send them the deposit slip with a grand total of what is in the account. I have told them that when there is something they really want, call grandma and we will get the money out for the special thing. So far none of them have thought anything was special enough to take the money out and they each have accumulated a bit of money that will come in handy some day.

How about an experience for Addie? Pottery painting, one of the painting classes for kids, etc.
I thought of Vince the other day. My husband was working in the yard and he had a hole in his t-shirt. I told him I could sew it up for him and he said it was just fine. It wasn’t green but I still thought of Vince! LOL!
