First Thanksgiving Changes

These are the changes I’m going to make to this project. I know no one else is concerned with this but I’m typing them out and will link to them under this project on my project page in case anyone else who stitches this wants the info. I will change it as I go. Not all of these plans may work as I hope they will and I may find other things that need to be changed but for now . . this is my plan.

I have emailed back and forth with the designer and she did design some “asymmetry” into the chart but I’m more of a symetrical stitcher so here are some changes I have or will make.

Changes I’m Making:

  • Border – there are two places on each of the four borders where the “humps” have four bottom stitches instead of three (all the others have three)
  • Border – the top right border has 7 straight stitches. The top left border has 5. The bottom right has 13 and the bottom left has 11 stitches.

Solution: I can make all the bottom humps in the border have three stitches and add two stitches to the left top and bottom and that will make both sides on the top have 7 straight stitches and both sides on the bottom have 13 stitches

  • On the cover photo, the bunting is right up against the border on the top and right but there are two stitches in between the left border and the left side of the bunting. Also, the tops of the center star points are cut off. A quilter can never cut off points!

Solution: I moved everything down so there will be one space between the top of the bunting and the center star points. There should be 2 stitches between the side borders and the bunting.

  • Both ends of the top and bottom borders have “clover” pointing out. The side borders have the top one pointing out and the bottom one pointing in and that makes it close to impossible to have the corners on the bottom match the corners on the top. The bottom right corner on the cover photo is not stitched as shown on the chart.

Solution: I would prefer that the side borders end with clovers on the top and bottom that face out. That means I would have to add or subtract about 20 stitches in order for that to come out right. I will wait til I get closer to that area to decide. Right now I’m thinking I’ll leave off the alphabet, pumpkins and numbers under the table and that should make it come out about right. I should be able to bring the turkeys on each side of the table down a few stitches or leave them off and put a small pumpkin . . that area looks crowded to me. By leaving off those rows, it should come out almost perfect to reduce the side borders by 20 stitches, then be able to flip the top border, stitch it as the bottom border and have it work out as I want it to work out.

Corrections/Errata:

There is an error in the top border at the 110 vertical line. There are two stitches that should not be there. There is also a similar error at the 190 vertical line, top border . . one extra stitch.

On the British flag pole, just to the left of the 90 vertical line and below the 60 horizontal line, there’s a symbol missing but it’s easy to figure out that out – it’s the same as the rest of the pole (434).
