Tonight is going to be an early to bed night for me.
This morning Vince said “There are only two bags of dog food left in the freezer.” OK . . I had a lot to do in the kitchen today but I would add dog food to the list. Here’s the routine:
- Take two packages of chicken out of the freezer.
- Put it in the sink with cold water to defrost enough that I could get it out of the package.
- Put frozen chicken in the pressure cooker.
- Open 3 cans of peas and 3 cans of carrots and dump them into the colander to drain.
- Put sweet potatoes on to boil.
- Once the chicken was done in the pressure cooker, remove the chicken.
- Pour the chicken broth into a freezer container so I could freeze it and save it for making dressing and gravy next week.
- Cook the rice in the pressure cooker.
- Remove sweet potatoes from the pot, peel and mash them.
- Chop the chicken once it cooled.
- Mix it all up and put it into 12 bags.
That’s actually a lot of work – not hard work but standing in the kitchen being busy work, especially while trying to do other things in the kitchen.
When I was done and went out to the fridge freezer to put the dog food in, there were two bags on the bottom shelf and three bags on the top shelf. Vince is almost always the one who gets the dog food out so I’ve asked him to please let me know when we get down to having only two bags left. I put it on the top shelf one time and on the bottom shelf the next time. The plan is that if there are two bags on the bottom shelf and the top shelf is full, use what’s on the bottom shelf til it’s gone, then use what’s on the top shelf.
So, instead of two bags of dog food left, there were five bags of dog food left.
Vince was outside doing something. I walked out and held up five fingers and said “How many fingers do you see?” Five. I held up two fingers and said “How many fingers do you see?” Two. OK. Next time you look for dog food, please check it twice and tell me how many bags you see! 🙂 He knew I was just pulling his chain and wasn’t upset about it.
I put the new dog food in a different freezer to be sure the older dog food gets used first.
It really worked out better because by the time I would have really needed to make dog food, it would be Tuesday or Wednesday next week and I’d rather not have to do it that close to Thanksgiving. I’ll probably be making cornbread and chopping onions and celery by Tuesday.

Well at least Vince looks in the freezer. My husband just orders without looking hence we have too much of one item and none of the essentials! He tells me I’m OCD. Huh I cannot be the only woman who lines up her tins like souPs, beans, which are split into lines of baked beans, haricot beans, butter beans etc. I was away 2 weeks and came home and wanted soup, only to find everything had obviously been put away where there was a space! You can guess there wasn’t a can of soup but 8 cans of baked beans. He has no idea why it upsets me. Once I organised the cupboards again he could see what was needed. How else do you know what to shop for? Please tell me I’m not alone in this .

I am the same way. I even alphabetize my spices. Hubby totally ignores my plan, haha. He teases me about it. Funny thing is, he does most of the cooking so I guess, why should I care? I think that is his thought.
