It seems like we’re living in the days where anything that can go wrong WILL go wrong. As you all know, I order most everything we get around here. As far as groceries, most everything except refrigerated type items, I mail order and the refrigerated items I get delivered.
With Christmas coming and merchants being busier and more packages being shipped, I think I’m for sure not ordering anything else for a while.
First, I had ordered some linen from a shop that does dying. The website said it would be some amount of time (I’ve forgotten now how long) before it would be dyed and shipped. I waited that amount of time and then some, sent an email, got no response, called them, got no answer, left a message, got no response, sent another email and got no response so I filed a complaint (or whatever it’s called with my credit card). Still waiting for a decision on that.
Second, I ordered 5 things from an online shop. They were prompt with sending out the shipping notice, on which it appeared that everything was shipped. A few days late the package arrived. Three things were NOT included. They were circled on the packing slip. The two things that were sent had a star by them. No explanation. I wrote them, got a response back asking for a copy of the packing slip. I sent that. No response. I waited a few days . . almost a week, no response. I wrote them again and asked for an update. No response. Wrote them again, no response, filed a claim with Paypal. That very same day I received an email asking me to call them (even though they had my number). I called and the lady was very nice and said she would send the items that were not included. There is a package on the way to me. Why didn’t they respond when I first wrote them.
Third, another reputable company. I had ordered some linen from them in October. Today I was thinking . . I should have received that. Went back through my email, found the tracking number. Check it . . “Picked up by customer at post office”. I thought .. we haven’t picked up a package at the post office in months. Then I looked and it was a different town, different state . . somehow my linen must have been sent to someone else. Now most of that linen is no longer in stock. I know they’ll make it right but I’m getting to the point where I feel like I have to go back to making a list of everything I order, checking it daily and marking off the things that arrive, following up on the things that didn’t. That’s more trouble than it’s worth – especially since there’s nothing I need so . . another reason to stop spending money, get comfy with what I have and remove one more frustration from my life.

I have gotten where I make a list on a pad by my computer, because sometimes thing ship in a couple of days others take forever. I found it is the only way I don’t forget stuff.

Judy I order a lot off the internet also. I have a file in my mail program. I move all of my order emails to that location, then when I get a shipped email I put it there also. I do check daily. I like to see that it is moving correctly. I have had stuff not show up–sent to the wrong address also–even delivered incorrectly. I say if I don’t keep up with it who will. Not meaning family members meaning the companies won’t keep up with my orders and let me know oh it was shipped to the wrong address, or we forgot to tell you we didn’t put something in your package. That all lays on my shoulders. I just check each morning and then again sometimes in the afternoon to see if it has made any progress. I know I have other things to do–but I also feel it is my responsibility to see where it’s going.

That’s what I had been doing and got slack about it. I’ll have to start doing that again but when it gets to be more time than it’s worth, which is what I’m feeling now, it’s time to stop ordering.

i ordered sheets and they were sent promptly to my address, but the inside packing slip and wrong sized item was for someone else. i called kohl’s to explain and they overnited my correct size immediately. i asked if they would like the name and city of the intended recipient to call and correct their order, but no. that means those people will have to just be on their own. when i asked if they wanted me to return to the store, the answer was no; just keep it, gift it, or donate it. nice of them, but imagine the $$$ lost on that type of mixup! the good news tho is a few years back i had a friend give me new flannel sheets because she was getting rid of her guest bed (my size), and i was able to return the favor by gifting these sheets (her size) to her! karma – the good kind.

Makes you wonder what kind of hoops the other person had to jump through to get a refund. That was so nice though that you were able to “payback” the good deed to your friend.

I rarely order online but then, I hate to shop period. I did give in and order from Amazon twice this fall. Both times “lost”. Contact seller. ‘You need to give it another 10 days’. Me: the tracking says it is lost. Them: you’ll need to wait. Don’t reorder.
In the end, everything has arrived but crap, don’t tell me I’ll get it next day because I’ve got a 2 weeks Prime account trial, then tell me 2 days, then tell me it’s lost and then tell me I have to wait 10 days………bleh.
ARGHHHHHHH I hate shopping and this made it even worse. At least pre-covid I could spend my $ traveling. Now that’s not stress-free anymore either!

I have had really good luck shopping online til recently and now it seems everything I order either doesn’t get here, comes in damaged or something is missing. I think my dislike for shopping is about to include online shopping.

There is no such thing as customer service anymore. I understand why the government was splitting up companies years ago – they were getting too big for their britches! Now the government has let it happen again, and the bigger the company, the less customer service. Verizon stole over $300 from me that I know I’ll never see again. I wrote to one of their vice-presidents…didn’t hear a word. Call to complain – sorry, nothing we can do. Ask for a supervisor – sorry, can’t do that either. If you don’t keep track of every detail, companies these days will steal you blind. And sometimes when you DO keep track, they’ll still steal you blind.
Do I sound disgusted? Yes…I’m afraid I’ve become very cynical as I age. The older I get, the less I think of the integrity and honesty of companies around the world. They don’t care if you’re satisfied or not. So long as the money is coming in, they could care less.

I don’t blame you one bit. I understand that with Covid and supply issues, things are crazy for businesses too but for a business to not even respond and act like they care . . I’ll never do business with those two companies again.
I’m sorry you lost so much money and hope you can get it back.

My great niece’s mom does not use her card to shop on line so my niece told her she would use her card and she could reimburse her. What she ordered for her son was around $400 or more. She kept waiting and it never showed up. She looked and it was sent to the same address in another town! She called Walmart where she ordered it from. They told her it was from a secondary company and they couldn’t do anything about it! She called the company and they said it had been delivered and signed for. She was really mad by then and called her credit card company! They told her not to worry about it because they would refund her the money and take action against the company! Guess what? The item finally showed up at the right location! So if you order things from Walmart you have to be careful where it comes from!

It’s the same from a lot of places – Amazon being one. We only order things from WM that are sold and shipped by Walmart for that reason but on Amazon, it’s a bit harder to be sure what you’re getting is sold, shipped and warranted by them.

I am paying attention as I order and leave the e-mail telling me they got my order on my computer. I made two orders of linen and I have ordered Quaker Crow from a shop in Italy.. They were nice enough to send me an update that the order will be slow to be filled. (I expected that) and they would let me know when it was filled.
I did oreder the Sampler from Russsa and it came right through as a PDF.
Then a week later they sent an e-mail saying they did not get paid. Ha.
We get mail for the neighbor. The street a bit away. And yesterday for the next town down the road. ?

I had ordered a cookbook and instead received “The Vixen Manual…How to Find, Seduce,& Keep the Man You Want”. I sent messages to the seller and could not get a response so it’s still sitting here. Being that we’ve been married over 51 years, I don’t think I need that book. 🙂
Rebecca says
Oh my goodness. I wonder if a vixen wannabe has your cookbook?
After 51 years, I think the cookbook is probably more useful to “keep the man you want.” 😀
Donna in KS says
LOL sorry about the cookbook though!

There is an app called Shop that I have installed on my phone. They might have a desktop version too. You allow it permission to your email and Amazon accounts and it finds your orders for you and updates the status of each order so you have one place to easily keep track of all your online orders. It’s been a lifesaver for me!
judy.blog@gmail.com says
I had that too but it notified me every time every package moved from one location to another. I was able to modify which notifications I received but every time the phone updated, it defaulted back to EVERY move EVERY package made and I finally disabled the app.

I have a folder in Gmail that is labeled Orders & Reservations. When I get an order confirmation, I move that email to that folder. When I get a shipping notice, I move it to that folder. Every once in a while, like when an order arrives, I go through and delete everything that has been received. No list needed, and everything in one place!

Have ya’ll noticed that Walmart has removed the phone numbers that used to be posted in customer service? And on your receipt the mgrs name is only first name? What does that tell you? Lots of complaints.
My friend has had her credit card scammed twice at Walmart. When she was at the bank they told her she could get a second debit card on her bank account that held $0.00 in it. When she used it she could immediately transfer $ to that debit card to pay the amount owed. That way her bank account could not get wiped out. I am going to check on this at our bank.
judy.blog@gmail.com says
That’s the reason we don’t even have debit cards. I noticed there were no longer phone numbers for customer service online. I can tell you thought — if I were a WM manager, I would not want my last name on every receipt.
